Deanna, thanks for the input! This is interesting. I also have no other keys on my Spyder key chain. I never have my two Spyder keys together either. I have one key, my wife has the other one. We do this for safety in case I lock my key in the Spyder by accident. Now for the other info, this past Saturday when my Spyder gave me the DESS for 2.5 hours, I had my phone on with Blue Tooth turned on, and my Sena headset on with Blue tooth attached to my phone. I don't know if that any impact on my problem or not. But after 2.5 hours, when the Spyder did start I didn't have my helmet with me at the bike, nor turned on. Just the phone. Interesting twist!!
I carry my cell phone in the trunk, so it is away from the front( D.E.S.S. and the ignition switch) and I do not have Blue tooth in my helmet/ or Sena. yea, it is an interesting twist. I will update this "Thread" when I get more info. from my Can-Am dealer. Please stay tuned, and If you have any other info. please post on this thread. Deanna

Ditto! Mine has popped up several times in the last two weeks, starting to happen more often. It will quit on me sooner or later as this pattern is much like it did before earlier this year, after which, the DESS module was changed. New ignition and keys last year, new module this year. Taking it to dealer tomorrow to see what they can do.
Other than this, this machine has been darn near flawless and I love it.
Lets us know what your dealer says, and what they will do. If it happens again take a picture, and take it to your dealership, then they can not say it did not happen. Deanna

I keep my phone and credit cards nowhere near the ignition switch. When I had my DESS error I wasn't even on the bike yet; I had turned the key on to let it boot up while I put my helmet and gloves on.
I don't keep both keys together but I do keep it on a short keyring along with the saddlebag key, LidLox key, and house keys.
My phone and Credit cards are no way near the Ignition switch. When I got the D.E.S.S error I was not on the spyder, I was getting ready to go. Deanna

Has anyone reported the D.E.S.S. error on models earlier than 2014?
Prior to the 2014's, the setup was different. The DESS module on the older models received the information from the key AND did the authentication. If it liked what it saw, it told the ECM to start the bike. That's why on older models if you swapped the DESS module, you had to reprogram the keys. With the 2014's, the DESS module is just a pass thru -- it receives the information from the key and simply passes it on to the ECM. The ECM does the authentication and decides whether to start the bike or not. So the DESS module on the 2014's can be swapped out with no reprogramming of the keys -- the authentication information is stored in the ECM.
I would say that means that the DESS modules are totally different and experience on prior years does not relate to 2014's. I asked my tech, who's very good, if he had any idea why BRP would have changed their strategy. He thought about it and said it may have been to make it easier to add new keys for people. With the old system, it was cumbersome and took some time to program the keys. Now he said they can use BUDS and it's really quick. Sounded like a good thought to me but only BRP knows for sure why they did it.
If you buy the Sena SM10 dongle from the dealer they will put it on a bracket in the frunk in front of the battery door. Some folks claim there's unacceptable interference with it in that location but mine works fine. YMMV.
Artillery lends dignity to what would
otherwise be a vulgar brawl.

This one is ABSOLUTELY on-topic, as I was discussing another possible source of trouble for the DESS system.

Once again; a discussion with Dee, where I was simply assuring her that I bore no ill-will toward her over what she had posted... You must add context; for the meaning to be clear!

I actually don't think so...
Here's why:
I don't insult Mike personally; but I WILL correct him on perceptual errors and factual points...
Having said that: I DO enjoy seeing what he comes up with... He's so far outside the box; that I doubt he can even see it at times!
Of course; I could run afoul of the Boss for a myriad of other reasons...

Here is the newest picture of the D.E.S.S. KEY CODE on my 2014RTS-SE6: I tried both keys and got the same D.E.S.S. error code, I also turned the key 4 to 5 cycles, and I DID NOT LET THE SYSTEM SHUT DOWN, the dealer told me this ( via phone call last week) I was at home when this occurred. BRP must get a grip on this asap. Deanna
