Default Official Updated 3 Great Lakes in 3 Great Days Ride

The other thread was getting a little long and the information was getting a little lost, so I wanted to repost everything all together right here. Here is the information I have so far:

It is official, Aug. 12, 13 & 14 will be 3 Great Lakes in 3 Great Days!! The Cedars Motel is our host motel but they are currently sold out. Here is the updated Motel info for this ride. It appears we are getting quite a group for this. I am so excited.

The Cedars, our host motel is booked. The back up is next door and is called the Northernaire their number is 906-643-8704. There are two motels across the street from our motel and they are the Pines 906-643-9250 and the Bear Cove 906-643-8910. I don't know anything about these other places but I wanted to give some alternatives. Also The Village Inn (where we are having dinner on Friday) has a hotel and said they are great rooms and would love to have us there as well. Village Inn phone is 906-643-9511.

Friday, Aug. 12th. Meet a Nord Ride parking lot 7415 Enterprise Parkway, Mount Morris, MI 48458 (just off of I-75) at 9:00 am. We will be leaving by 9:30 am. Here is the link for the ride to Mackinaw City.Ride from Nord Ride to the Bridge
We will plan on meeting on the South East side of the bridge in the parking lot for a group ride across the bridge at approx 3:30 pm. If you need a meet up along this route, let me know so we can plan a stop to pick you up. I prefer that any extra stops coincide with gas stops, so we will try to arrange our pick up points accordingly.

After we gather on the south side of the bridge we will cross as a group and head to the motel. Bridge to Cedars Motel

Everyone has time to visit, rest, clean up or whatever. We can all gather and head to dinner on Friday Night at the Village Inn. They are saving the whole back room for us so we can all be seated together, around 6:00p.m. Here is the link for the menu Village Inn MenuThe rest of the night is yours to do as you please. The Motel has a bon fire every night if we would like or head to the casino or just ride around.

Sat. morning, I would like to be ready to head out around 9:00 am. Here is the Sat. map route. St. Ignace/Sault Ste. Marie/Paradise/Tahquamenon Falls/St. Ignace
I plan on giving everyone some time to visit at the Sault and also at the Falls, probably have lunch in Paradise. That is yet to be determined. This gives us a full day of riding and some breath taking sites. My plans for dinner on this night cook out on the BBQ grill right there at the Motel and relax around the fire. Since we all have little refrigerators in our rooms, I plan to have gone to a store on Friday and already have my steaks or burger or whatever on hand. Once again, the evening is yours to enjoy in whatever way you find is right for you. This is a casual vacation and just a nice way to hang out with others. Everyone is always welcome to do their own thing. These are my tentative plans. You don't have to plan to cook out also, you can go where ever and eat. I just like to have a base itinerary to share with others.

Sunday Morning, I plan on leaving around 9:00 or 9:30 (maybe later as it doesn't take that long to get to Legs Inn) Legs Inn and heading home on the west side of the state. Here is the route and it will take us through the Tunnel of Trees as well. Sunday Ride Home I think it would be pretty cool to have lunch at the Legs Inn if it isn't too crowded when we arrive in Cross Village. The Sunday Ride home link

Then alas, our official journey will end in Harbor Springs. From there we will all go our separate ways towards our various homes, having once again created some wonderful riding memories.

As I have tried to state for everyone, this is a vacation. This is not a mandatory itinerary. This is the weekend I have planned out and if it works for you to join us, that would be fantastic. If you just want to come up and stay with us and do your own thing on ride days, that is fine too. The only change I see right now, is I may shorten the ride up to the Sault to give more time there. Saturday is a pretty full day already.

If I'm there you can be sure that Geri will come along. We're thinking of camping with our motorhome in St. Ignace. Anyone else planning on camping, and anyone have a recommendation for a campground?

I don't have any recommendations but here are a few links I looked up. All are within 5 miles of our Motel

    http://koa.com/campgrounds/st-ignace/

    http://www.michigandnr.com/parksandt...pe=SPRK&id=427

Man looking up all these campgrounds made me want to camp again. But not until we get a bigger tent and better gear. I hope you find a good spot.

After reading the menu from the Village Inn, you may be cooking out at the motel by yourself on Saturday night. They have quite a few things that sound good.

Nothing says we have to cook out on Saturday. We can go there two nights in a row. I am all for it. It is a pretty good looking menu and reasonably priced too.

That would be great to meet with you at any point in the trip. Can't wait to meet you. If you don't catch us at the bridge we will be in St. Ignace at the Cedars and then the Village Inn for dinner.

Thanks, we'll check them out when we're back in town. Right now we're hoping to be at Glacier National Park tomorrow, spend 7-8 days there, and then head into Canada. No camping, no motorhome on this trip - just the Spyder and trailer. Ask us some time about the joys of looking for a motel in North Dakota when floods are imminent! lol

Glad your trip is going well, Dan. We have fought the accommodations game here in the mountains, too, a few nights. I didn't realize you were "roughing it" this trip. Still trying to persuade Nancy to cross the Bridge to make the August get-together. Stay tuned.........

I wish you well on your trip. Sounds great for the most part. Good luck with the motel dilemma.

    Default UP BRIDGE

    Dear DandB
    Just 37 days to go:
I just read that the Mackinaw Bridge can with stand 150 MPH winds----
I was wondering if I should bring my own tie down straps.
I bet Scottie already plans to bring enough for everyone.

Sorry, if we make it, the tie-downs will be for Nancy, so she doesn't chicken out and hitchhike home before she has to cross the bridge.

I've got a reservation at the Cedar Motel for this event if anybody needs a room...Another one that I can't make because I'll be recovering <hopefully> from my bypass that's being done in July...This really sucks but gotta get the plumbing fixed if I'm gonna be doing any riding in the future..Send me an PM and I'll call the Cedar and confirm the room transfer...Meanwhile I'll sit back and pout that I can't attend any of these great events this summer

I can't wait to cross The Bridge on my Spyder. I have been over that bridge many times but never on a motorcycle.

Here's a look at crossing in the winter. Sometimes you can see and sometimes not so much.
