Mine has 25k miles and I figure I'd do the 28k mile maintenance, which requires a plug change, even though they are platinum plugs which should last 50k or more.

Good to know, I know they came with factory platinum plugs, so I think I'll keep mine in until the next 28k service. I'm going to change the HCM filter though.

I have replaced the sparkplug at 28,000 miles on all my spyders (2014RTL, 2015 F3S, 2018 F3L, 2020 RTL, 2021 STS) and not one of those needed it. I have replaced them after 35,000 miles on my 2020 RTL and the plugs still looked great. I am now waiting until they have 50,000 miles before changing them to see how they are. That will be at 115,000 miles on my 2020 RTL (currently at 92,000 miles). My wife's 2021 STS will hit the 50,000 miles on her sparkplugs in about 7,000 miles. Plugs changed at 28,000 miles and she has around 71,000 miles on her spyder.
So my advice is don't replace them at 28,000 miles, but do replace the motor oil, oil filter, transmission filter, and fuel filter.

I do not know about the 2017's but the 2012 models didn't come with great plug wires, and they came with standard plugs, not a great combo to have. Changed mine out and glad I did, runs a lot better. The RT's are a pain to get to, but doable, and gave me a chance to rip the airbox out and never see that again now that job will be a piece of cake!!!

28,000 mi. ,..... well my 14 RT has 83,000 + mi. and runs just fine with the original plugs / wires..... good luck ... Mike ...

I do not recommend changing them unless the Spyder is not running or idling well. My current F3 has a bit over 97k on it and still runs great on the original plugs. If it ever starts misfiring etc, I will replace them but until then, its just too darn much work to get to them.
The only Spyders I have seen that need plug replacements are ones that run 87 octane all the time and ones that set idle for many months or years.
