    Default Front Sprocket Recall

I have a 2015 RT Limited with a little over 14K miles. I haven't seen anything mentioned about what is actually the problem with the sprocket. Will it shear off/seize up? How about critical mileage when the problem starts or does it depend on riding style like high RPM's/trailer towing, etc.? I understand that some, not all, riders experience some noise or vibrations but other than that, no other warning? I contacted my dealer the day after I received my recall notice (June 22). They didn't know what the "interim fix" was going to be until June 30. My appointment is 3rd week of July. I'll follow up then. I plan on still riding with fingers crossed! Have a great summer!!

Well documented on this site. Look at the front belt pully. Covered in red rust dust?......you have the problem. Easy check with a mirror if you don't want to pull tupperware.

Spyder Safety Recall for 2015 - 2019 RT + F3. Front pulley - red dust

Last weekend another spyder ryder told me that there's a recall on the front pulleys for 2015- 2019 RTS and the F3? Have any of you folks heard about this recall? He says parts are on backorder.

    Stupid question......

How do you check for "red dust"? I would imaging that you have to take the left side panels off to take a good look at the sprocket itself?

If you can get down low enough with a good torch, you can usually see the red dust by looking in from either the back of the bike along the outside of the belt; or from below the front pulley looking up.

When it gets bad, the red dust is pretty obvious!

Mind you, the Recall document suggests that BRP doesn't think there is any indicator of impending failure - it's just that everyone here who has reported a failure has discovered the red dust.... either before or on failure!

I just called my dealer about this recall.
The service guy said the fix is pending, as in they can't do the recall service until further notice.
He also said to avoid riding it until they get to it, like maybe next December?
    Sorry, that ain't happening :-)

Your dealer is full of crap. Once the dust starts to appear you still have a long ways to go till it drastically shows. If it’s covered front and back and really evident then worry. As a side note there is not a single dealer that knows the exact fix. BRP hasn’t released it. It’s a service bulletin still for them with the recall stated. The temporary fix that was to be released at the end of June is not being released now. The recall will be released late august-October. As for parts don’t expect them anytime soon. I ordered a part last October 20th. It has been pushed back 6 times. The last was July 22. Now it’s October 12th. All new release dates on 2022 spyders that were to arrive July 12th or 22nd are now pending. The spyder line is done with production august 1st. The sled production was scheduled to start July 1st and is now pushed back to the 20th. These dates have already been released. So since the sprockets and most parts are made overseas don’t expect them in anytime soon. If it’s a true problem for you get a new sprocket put on, contact BRP for the refund. It states it black and white on the recall. Ride it, and don’t even worry about it unless there’s a lot of dust showing.

Yes, I got a letter today saying there is a recall. It is the front pulley. They want me to bring it in for a temporary fix. They have no parts and according to the letter it might be 6 months to a year before the parts are available to change them all out. The letter stated it was 2015 - 2019 and the F3 also. I have F3-S 2019. Letter said if I choose to continue riding it is subject to lose power to the rear wheel.

I have been aware of the problem for a long time and check the front sprocket regular. I am not going to let them do some temporary fix which I could do myself if I thought there was a problem. Also not going to park it for 6 months to a year waiting for parts. When they do get the parts, they can send the new pulley to me and I will put it on. I am not taking it in, nor do I want them working on it. If they don't like that, I will just pay for an upgraded pulley and put it on myself when they become available.

Loss of power to the drive wheel is no big deal. It could be worse, depending on where you are, but I have had at least 4 or 5 Harley belts either break or strip off most of the teeth over the years. Worst problem was always having to get somebody to bring a trailer to get it back home.
