Default my rear tire is completely shot in the middle

Is it normal for tires to wear the middle first? Mine are completely shot in the middle but the outside look good. It's got 9,500 miles on it. I've kept the pressure at 28 since I've owned it (New to me at 5,000)

My first tire got about 12,000 miles with about 28 psi. I dropped the pressure to 25 and got almost 18,000. Did not seem to tell any difference in handling.

    Cool Tire wear

You are definitely the victim of over inflation. But you may not have been the cause of it. Best to check your tire pressure gauge against a known standard for accuracy just to be safe for the next tires longer life span.

Nope not over inflated, The stock tire is quasi motorcycle tire, And will expand [balloon] at speeds.
Crazy as it sounds that type of ware with the stock tire is normal...

put a real tire on it and you will get 2 or 3 times the miles of the OEM 28 psi probably to much for stock about right for a real tire my michlen has 15000 on it and is well over 80%

I absolutely agree about the "balooning effect". I kept very good track of the air pressure in the rear tire and it would wear out in the center with a lot of tread left on the outer edge of the tire. I would have to replace the stock tire around 12,000 to 14,000 miles on it. I have over 28,000 miles on my Michelin and looks like I will get at least 30,000 miles on it before I have to put my new Michelin on.

the man is right!! just replaced mine at 10,000 and it looked identical.(worn into the wear bars) the spyder tech at my dealership explained the dynamics of it, coupled with a two ply and that's what you get!!! unfortunately I replaced mine with the same, because I have heard some horror stories about warrantee work on trannies etc. not being covered with off label tires on the roadster. didn't want to take the chance.done last week, $223.00 tire and labor! I ran mine the whole time at 24 to 25 and I still got the wear!

Over- or under-inflated; these tires are famous for wearing out the center section...

Same thing happened to me, got 8500 miles on it. I tried to lower the pressure on it and it didn't do any good. When the dealer asked me if I did a lot of highway riding, I told him I did not and asked him why he thought to ask that. He informed me that at "higher than normal speeds" the tire would balloon and wear out the center. Sounds to me like somebody has been playing a bit hard.

    Just sayin'............
Three in the garage, and I think I can fit at least one more in.....and then we will have to build another garage.

It is normal for the Kenda tire. The ballooning problem gets worse as the tire wears. It is also worse at freeway speeds. Pressures within the recommended range seem to make little difference.

Similar situation for me. I just replaced my rear tire and am now on tire # three. I average 13,000 to 15,000 miles on a tire. Keep inflated at 28psi. Same wear pattern on mine as shown above.

So you know all about the balloon effect.

I think maybe you read that wrong. I think 40mph average is actually pretty high. Don't you? When you figure I let my bike warm up a few minutes before I take off and I typically take several intown errand runs.

The Michelin HydroEdge is discontinued, but can be found at http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...60&diameter=15 (closeout) for $111.00. I used the 215/60R15 size and found that my speedometer is now always within 1 mph of my GPS, often showing the same speed. No nanny issues since I mounted it March of last year. Also had the O-rings, spacers and seals replaced while the dealer mounted the tire for me.

This is the most confusing post ever....how would different rubber cause warranty issues on the tranny???
