Have you had to replace Vacuum Hoses

Cracked Vacuum Hoses seem to be a problem for some. Have yours been replaced?

These are the two on the left side that run to the Manifold Air Pressure Sensor (M.A.P.S.).

Possible symptoms are rough unsteady ide accompanied by Check Engine and Limp Mode.
Also those with an SE5 may experience auto-downshifting issues.

Related codes are P2279 and P0106.

Had to have 2 hoses replaced just this month on a 2011 RT-S.

Friend just had hers replaced; transmission would not automatically downshift, but would manually using paddle.

I used to own a Kaw KLR-650. These bikes had a strange issue with various rubberized components. Some people experienced severe cracking and failure while others had no problems at all. Eventually it was determined that Kawasaki had on occasion received bad batches of rubberized components from various vendors. I wonder if that's what's happening here.

I posted on this a while back. Spyder ran like crap and would not idle. Dealer was 150 miles away. Spoke to them on phone. They suggested I check these 2 hoses as they have had to replace quite a few of them. Trip to town to purchase the correct size hose. 1+ hours and the job was complete. Removed more tupperware than needed but wanted to make sure nothing else was amiss. Both hoses were badly cracked. One was split completely so that caused the fault code. Buttoned it back up and ran like new.

Mine were replaced a couple weeks ago. 2012 RS, 2800 miles. Dealer said they had seen it before.

I have the 2010 RT and am going on a 10 day ride and want to have these hoses with me. What length of hose, what diameter (ID or OD) and is there a silicone type hose that would be more tolerant to heat?

This seems to be happening in isolated cases but is surprising in a 2012 model... did they change to a lower quality hose ?

Replacing those hoses is not easily done on the fly plus no one has mentioned yet that the RT shop manual clearly states that the hose length is calibrated and changing it can cause unpredictable results...

Dealer checked my hoses while I had it in for servicing before going to Spyderfest because of the recent posts of it being a problem.

No problem with any of my hoses.

These two bits of information would be good to know to add to the data:

• Location of where the Spyder is most ridden.
• Mileage of the Spyder.

My unit is a 2011, but doesn't have as many miles as others do (I am almost sure) because I have motorcycles I also ride. (Only so much time to ride!)

So while the poll is a good idea, it would be an added-plus to know location and mileage to be able to determine any potential trend.

no one has mentioned yet that the RT shop manual clearly states that the hose length is calibrated and changing it can cause unpredictable results...

At one point we had a 4" replacement hose on one side and the original 3.5" on the other. It ran fine. I would think that both hoses should be the same length. The spares I made up are 4" long. The manual showes these as being 4.33" long yet the BRP Part "420960115 Hose, Sensor" is only 3.5" long.


Ours is a 2011 RT but new on the road April 2012. At the time 8000 Km (5000 mi).

More info here, check posts 22 & 27: Post 22 mentioned that the length is 85mm and I believe it was ment to be 8.5mm or 3 1/2 inch. Thats the length of the OEM on my '11 RT.

Replacing mind right now , first one was cracked very bad, second one cracking, after replacing, cleared up all problems, and running just fine. Thanks for everyone's help.

ALL of the 2013 RTs have had them replaced....or should have. They are part of the heat recall and are replaced when doing the fuel system conversion to a non-return style.

No, I was not having any problems. But, I live and ride in Texas where it gets HOT! So, when I had the heat scoops installed on our 2012 RT Limited (BRP picked up tab as "good will"), I also had the map hoses replaced.

Just replaced the front one on 2012 RSS with 23000 miles. Rear hose is still good. Rear is longer with a larger inside diameter. Will replace both when I get some silicone hose. Runs fine with front changed as it was a mess-cracked- split- multi holes.
