    Default More Turnsignal Indicator Lighting

    Hi Guys!
I figured it best to get an early start on the WinterTime projects on my RT... (Well... That; and The Missus is madder than a wet hen at me! )
So off I go to the garage to hid...errrr work on the bike!
Removing the mirrors... It's a tricky thing to do when you don't do it every day to keep it fresh! After wrestling with each of them for about five minutes, they gave up and popped off into my hands. Unplug them, and we're off to the races!
I decided to mount a 3 LED strip on the inner wall of the mirror housing; it wouldn't blind me with a lot of glare, it would be visible to traffic behind me and in the next lane, and hopefully it'd be easier to find the wires once I pushed them down into the housing. (I left them together for this job!)
Layed on some primer that I had gotten from Reggy; once it was dry I stuck the LEDs into place and got to the point of no return: drilling holes!
Held my breath and said a prayer and punched some holes into the housings. Then I fished all of the wiring down through it and into the bowels of the darn thing; without a clue as to how I'd find it and pull it out!
I fashioned a hook on a piece of wire and went fishing... I found one and pulled it through so fast that it worried me... Sure enough; the second one was a real pain in the as... rear!
After forty minutes or so of looking dumber than normal, I managed to snag it and was back in business. Being careful to hook ground to ground and positive to positive on BOTH sides, I did a quick test with a battery... Back to the bike; I wrestled the mirrors back into place, and here's the results: More Turnsignal Indicators 001.jpgMore Turnsignal Indicators 002.jpgMore Turnsignal Indicators 004.jpgMore Turnsignal Indicators 005.jpg

Nice job, Bob. I hope you can make it to a Spyder event somewhere outside your backyard someday. I'll give you a lesson or two in removing the mirrors. A five minute struggle is a bit much!

    Hi Rich,
Believe me; the drilling part had an "Off The Chart" pucker factor...
Since I mounted it on the inside edge, I just drilled the hole right below the LED; kind of on the bottom...
I pushed all of the wiring into the mirror body, and caught it through kind of a slot down at the bottom. Above that slot was a smallish hole; I wound it through that and then back out the bigger opening that the OEM wiring uses. (I did that to kind of lock it in place and have it routed alongside the OEM)

Scotty; YOu're absolutely right! When they popped off; they just popped off as simple as anything. (I STILL don't know how they did that!)

The Dual Color White/Amber and Red Front Fender LED,s would do more (IMHO) to define your perimeter and are very easy to connect!
Tric LED or Custom Dynamics sell them.

Since they're not directly pointed at me, and they're not on the mirror's surface; they don't seem to cause that problem.
(This issue was one of my major concerns with some of the other mounting locations)

Reggie at Tricled makes a kit for mirror mounted signal lights. They mount above the mirror along the top edge of the mirror housing, horizontally. I just got a set from him and they look and work great. Pictures of them on Tricled.
