Cal Sci Windshield review
had the Dealer put it on this week. Noticed it was hazy but just thought it needed a good cleaning.
Detailer just finished and called me out to show me a problem. The windshield is hazy. I grabbed the OEM and held it up to the new one. The new one is hazy. The old one, dirt and all, was much clearer. We were in the sunlight about 2pm facing Southeast.
It appears this new windshield doesn't like the sunlight.
I emailed Cal Sci twice today and have not heard back yet.
I'll keep you up-to-date

I was thinking of getting one. This isn't very good news.

I bought the "shorty" tinted don't think it will matter quite as much whether it is perfectly clear or not........... I am a firm believer you get what you pay for, the Cal Sci windshields seem a little lower priced then most?

I have a 3/4 helmet. With the face shield, sometimes my vision doesn't seem as clear. Having a windshield that would further impact clear vision would really make me nervous.

Re: Cal Sci Windshield review
Mine was a bit foggy at first as well, but it cleared up. The first time I cleaned it, there were areas that appeared as though more buffing was required. also noticed it was a dirt magnet, compared to the original. The second cleaning cleared things up. The windshield just seems to be somewhat "wet" at first.
I'd also be interested to hear what CalSci has to say. I haven't had much of an issue with glare, since the inital fogginess cleared up, but as posted in my initial review, the windshield is white around the edges instead of black, so there is a slight color difference between it and the stock one. It's made of Lexan, so it should be as clear as any other Lexan product.

Please keep us posted.
I was also considering ordering one. We will see if potential customers like me waiting for their response will be an incentive for them to help you.

I have had the CalSci windshield on my GS for 2+ years and it does appear a bit hazy when I,m cleaning it In bright sunlight BUT its perfect when riding!! I think a photography guy might tell you why it appears a bit hazy in direct sunlight when lookin at it from in FRONT of the bike BUT when your sitting on it its fine????

CALSCI
We have a 2010 RT with about 17,000 miles;including an 8000 mile cross US and Canada 30 day trip using the stock windshield in temperatures up to 112 degrees and one day of snow, plus some cold rain. Our new Calsci, shorter and wider shield has been used now for about 300 miles; it's a great addition- much less turbulence and far quieter than stock; have yet to ride in rain, but expect it to be better-although I hate riding in rain and try to avoid it if possible. My new throttle body and windshield have transformed a good touring rig into a great one! I've been riding motorcycles for over 50 years;still ride serious dirt bikes, and up until this CANAM we toured on BMW's since 1971; and NO I would never return to two wheeled touring. We are complete Spyder converts.By the way, the trailer is great-far superior to a K1200LT with a Unigo. Enjoy the forum-very helpful.

calsci
By the way, my new Calsci was foggy until I cleaned it.
Use a soft cloth and hot water alone and you won't damage your windshield-stock or otherwise. This simply is not an issue.Good gain for reasonable price.

Charlie, what size windshield did you get? How tall are you? Thx

Heard back from Cal Sci
Finally, today, Monday @ 2:00pm I received an answer via email. Not what I expected.
And, I quote,
"Hi Bob,
Send it back, we'll refund your money.
And you already posted your thoughts on Spyderlovers.com. More than once.
Mark"
So, Mark, since you are reading my posts, what are you saying, Your windshields are hazy and a replacement will not cure the problem? Keep your money. You need it for more R&D.
Out!

Tinted Shorty
I have the tinted shorty on mine. I have about 400 miles with it on now, no problems at all. Mine had a plastic film on it when I got it, once I removed that, I cleaned both sides with the soft cloth and cleaner that came with the winshield. That took care of any residue from the manufacturing process that may have still been around. Mine seems to be holding up to the IL bugs very well and there is no issue with the clarity. It isn't as clear as the stock shield... becasuse it is tinted.

Ditto for me---I've got one on the way. With most folks getting shorty and mediums, they are looking over them and clarity issues may not be that noticeable to them. However these same materials are in use on many other motorcycle windshields made by them so it's doubtful this is a huge problem.
Bob, one of the real values of forums is people's opinions on products and services. I would hope we all know to take individual opinions with a grain of salt. Still, I'd rather see them and decide on my own. Reading Mark's site, it's obvious that he's very customer service oriented and has excellent policies. He's willing to refund with no questions, you can exchange or have it custom cut, can't ask for much more than that. I emailed him that his sizing chart was wrong, at first he was a bit brusque BUT once he figured out that he used a 2010 RT windscreen for initial measurement and that 2011 and 2012s are 1.5" shorter he posted that on 2 forums. Seems to be a good person to work with.
