Only fixes I've had on my 08 with 17k+ miles so far.

    OS Sensor
    Oil Sending Unit

Neither of which sidelined the Spyder.

What do you mean almost went up in flames 3 times ??? Either it caught on fire or it didn't . Can you explain this further ???

I have the 08 RS with 57,000 miles and have had all updates done, had issue with front end alignment, had front sprocket issue twice, had clutch basket noise (had it replaced under warranty), have always had brake squeel (have 2nd gen. pads right now) but they stop real well, have had exhaust gaskets replaced at least twice (under warranty) I finally had valves checked at 53,000 miles and all valves were still in spec. but had oil leaks at valve cover gaskets after valve insp (new ones under warranty), sputtering between 3,000 and 4,000 RPMS and now I am starting to loose functions on display like total hours, and trip hours. I do my own oil changes and lubrication of struts etc. and other regular maintenace. I also have had to change what dealer I deal, with going from one 5 miles away to one 60 miles away. Over all I have been very happy and excited to have the Spyder and ryde whenever we can!

    Thumbs up Original owner problems

Virtually no problems. The updates were not all done upon delivery, but that's no big deal. I have 4,300 miles since Aug 21 and I'm a happy guy. Gas mileage could be beter, but I knew that when I bought it.

Most of the problem with mine has been with the loose nut behind the handlebars... And Subarus!
I've got an issue with the throttle bodies; hopefully it'll get worked out after they get done making things straight again!

Virtually no problems on any of the three that I have had.

2008 GS SM5: 22,500 no problems other than factory recall service. traded at 22,500 on 2010 RTS.

2009 RS SE5: 22,000 and still going. Computer crash at 1500 miles. Parking brake adjustment issues. Factory recalls.

2010 RTS: 22,000 and still going. Recalls and a stripped wire causing problems when wet. Replaced rear brakes at 21,000.

I consider myself lucky and have not had any to date that has encountered major mechanical problems or downtime.

Also i had stumbling at 3-4k rpm....and coolant leaking from the pump.

    On the burn up....
First time was after filling up on a hot day....fumes ignited.
Second time ....over fill spill........did not ignite , thankfully

Most recently.....smelled gas after start up....raw gas leaking on r/s ....
Took plastic off.....leak is either at the line crimp clamps or the center fold of the filter.

    Working on narrowing it down.

I really want my brakes better.........................ANYONE?

We picked up an 09 rs for the wife. I think the biggest problem has been i turned a nut loose between the steering wheel and the seat.
As i shifted into 5th gear i could not remember a thing she had said.

+My 2008 SM5 Roadster Red GS has 52,000 problem-free miles with the exception of the rear fender struts cracking. The first replacements were covered by warranty, the second replacements weren't and are stored in the garage awaiting install, probably in a few thousand miles. Regular maintenance stuff has been replaced, like a headlamp and a fender lamp, and the seeming front end alignment concern disappeared and never resurfaced when I stopped using the OEM tires.

Rear tire keeps burning off, for some reason...

I'm very happy with the bike.

    Ride on.

And thank you folks for reminding me about ........my taillight......i am on my 3rd one.
    same thing all the time.
Plastic comes off and i am looking at my tail light and the hold screw for the entire assembly.

My guess is the plastic at the hold screw needs to be ....thicker... to handle any thing going on at the location.

I have a 2011 RS-S with 3,600 miles. I had noise and took the the left side panels off and the clips on the air box are not fitted and swing back and forth. The other that causes alot of problems is heat buildup caused by the headers. I am going to put on header tape on and see if it lowers heat buildup that is 290 deg. when outside temp. is 89 deg.

    January 2008 SM5 - 23,000 miles

1st DPS Dead right out of the crate. Since I never had it, I didn't know it until Lamont rode it at about 7,000 miles. Replaced on warranty.

    2nd DPS at recall.

Parking brake recall upgrade (really made a difference).

Tie Rod Ball Joint bad at about 21,000 miles.

That's about it unless you count the cheap HID light kit that has given me fits. My bad, not the Spyders fault.

    Might of found the leak....

Second time i turned the key on and smelled raw fuel. without even starting.

Looks to be the crimp clamp side at the inlet of the fuel filter.

A few reports on that clamp being lose early on with the Spyder, At least one was a non factory worm clamp
    that loosened.

April 2008, SM5. Instrument cluster at about 8500 miles, tach went OTL. Coolant tank seam split at around 12000, other than that, any problems were from ham handed reassembly.
