Zumo 665 - What's Needed to Install to a 2012 RT SE5

So I picked up the CAN-AM mounting Kit for the GPS on the RT - it has the the plastic cover and the small wire harness w/ connector that attaches in the back of the RT with the bracket and screws. I ordered the 665 but won't be here till next week. My question: does the actual (locking) GPS attachment part that mounts to the bracket with the longer wire actually come with the GPS or is there another harness that I need to order that does not come with the kit nor GPS unit? I am talking the part with the longer wire with the 3.5mm plus that attaches to the small connector harness

If you are referring to the harness for the 665, it comes with it, goes to the back of the right side of bike for the connection.
The antenna needs to be installed somewhere and from the info i have been able to gather, above the tupperware is best for reception. Hope that helps.:doorag:

Ya - the actual "thing-a-ma-bobby" (technical term - most may not understand that) that the 665 clicks onto on the bike mount from Can Am is what I mean - sounds like it comes with the GPS then.

Thanks for the reply!

yup, that kit you bought mounts on the steering wheel in the middle..the harness mounts to that...then run the wires back..etc... thing-a-mabobby is just about my speed..:roflblack:

I received my GPS City order and mounted my XM antenna to the new dash mount 1" Ram ball I just installed (thanks Lamont). Unlike Dave's XM antenna, mine did not come with any double sided tape. The bottom of mine has a rubber type cover adhered to it.

I used a 3" Ram arm on the dash ball mount. To the top of this I attached a Ram mount extension cradle (RAM-B-125BU). To the bottom of the XM antenna I attached (with provided screws) a 40 XM flange metal plate (010-11109-00 40). Between the flange plate and the extension cradle I used 3M Dual Lock fastener (McMaster-Carr), this stuff is very strong.

I routed the XM antenna wire thru a small notch in the top corner of the right speaker cover to the Garmin main harness under the right side of the Spyder RT-S.

Took a ride to test the setup and reception was as good as my truck's XM.

I do not have Bluetooth enabled on the Garmin (yet), so I will find out someday if this location is too close the Garmin 665 that is mounted on the top of my dash.

pictures please?

Here are a couple of pictures of the antenna location. I can rotate the plate almost 300+/- degrees and still miss the windshield in either full up or down position.

Wow - your pictures of your idea on mounting the XM antenna has sparked some thoughts on other things that might work out well there - thanks for posting!

So for those that have hooked in the 665 - does the XM sound come through the bike audio system on the AUX or another radio setting?

The 665 XM comes thru the GPS and it's constant when it's turned on, so it will override just about everything except GPS directions.

This is seems correct. If you use an intercom or cell phone in a headset, you will most likely need to turn off the XM radio as a source (in the ZUMO menu, simple to turn off and on) as I believe the Spyder system treats it as a GPS audio source. I do not currently use a headset, so at this point I can not confirm this and as so it is not an issue for me. If I do upgrade in the future to a headset, intercom and/or cell phone interface, I may need to consider going with BRP's XM setup for the Spyder RT-S. I would probably just keep the Traffic and Weather subscription on the Zumo 665 and have another for music on the BRP XM radio setup.

That has to sound just terrible if it is going through that little GPS (not that the sound on the spyder is all that impressive in and of itself though - but at least it is stereo).

Ok, since that has bothered me i went for a short ride tonight but the wife didn't want to tag along:dontknow:

First off, the sound coming from the GPS to my headset sounds fine, and much better using the zumo/xm than the SD card.(i might have had crappy music loaded on the card though)

phone calls on both ends are crisp and clear and the other party could not tell i was on a bike.

Since i didn't have a passenger, I couldn't check the intercom 100% for an actual conversation, but when i used her helmet to communicate with mine,(by pressing the "A" button on her helmet) the xm music did stop playing in my helmet, and thats the way it should work. Once there is no conversation for 30 seconds, the music should come back on, that i could not confirm tonight.

My headsets are VOX and don't have an "A" button. The XM in the 665 is a stereo so it should sound just fine and it did. I'm glad everything worked out to your liking.

Our headsets uses Vox technology also for voice...So depending on your headset how you would interact using the intercom may differ from our "A" button...but there should be a way. We have the SCR system in our schuberth helmets which are made by cardo and compatible with card units. The 660 worked flawlessly in this respect, so i was surprised to hear the 665 wouldn't.

My wife and I are very happy with the BRP systems we have installed (She is in charge of the music selection).

XM Overrides Intercom

Yep this is the way it works. I've have wired head sets and if the XM is turned on the wife and I can not communicate. Sometimes that is a good thing :yes:but most of the time I pay for it in the end.:roflblack:....

So to be clear on this - the XM on the 665 does NOT come through the audio system on the RT at all - ever?

I do not believe that is the case. When i first hooked mine up, i had it come through the audio system on the RT. I think we have confusion here since some of us are bluetoothing through the GPS, and some are not. It also appears the brp set up is different than a 3rd party.:dontknow:

I will check to make sure the xm will play through the RT speakers when set to do so.
