• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

You Tube Video - Shawn Smoak

Yea I talk to Shawn quite a bit. He usually knows his stuff. But he was way off on his facts on this one.

The lights are not on the Can-buss. And after market lights do not have a chip in them to fool the can-buss.
Yes the lights are "controlled" from the can-buss e.g. turned on, etc but each light does not have a processor in it that takes commands from the buss.

Now like anything if you overload a circuit on the Spyder, the system can see that and can cause issues. For instance a fast blink on the turn signals. That is there to tell you that you have a bulb burned out.

Obviously the trunk light he pointed out had some issue of overloading the riding or brake light circuit. That light if you look close at the video looks like some cheap strip from a auto parts store. So either it overloaded the circuit or the user wired it wrong.

Anyway, Shawn missed on this video which is rare. He is a top notch level 5 Spyder tech but appears he doesn't know the electrical system as well as he should.

:agree: Well said. Summed up fairly and honestly. We're not practicing selective listening. We're listening to the whole thing and coming up with the same conclusions you stated.

From Shawn's Perspective

I share the view that Shawn blew it on his rant about the aftermarket lights. We are very fortunate members of this web site in that so many members are knowledgeable and skilled enough to do real quality certified tech type work on their machines. Techs like Shawn see a lot of high quality DIY stuff come through their shops, as do cage technicians, and they also see a lot of :cus:. Maybe his rant came forth because something pegged out his "shade tree s**t" meter.
