No one is likley to learn anything new from "my" test drives today - well maybe one thing - at the BRP Coprorate Event at Riva Motorsports in Pompano Beach, FL.
Got to to drive an SE5 as well as an SM5 and no problems with either especially the SE5 - and I did try to do most of the things that, from reading, seemed to aggravate it at a quick stop. I let it downshift and I downshifted in as many scenarios as I could.
The Hindle is "da bomb" - great sound.
A long story, but I was shocked that my wife wanted to ride passenger with me (she dees not have amoto endorsement). For anyone who is worried about the Spyder and two-up - do not worry. It's fine.
It was a mild day and both Spyders I drove ran 5-6 bars: never a limp mode on any of the 8 in our group.
I have a moderate preference for the SE5 - slick, slick, slick, but there is an air of added control with the hand clutch of a manual. If I bite it will likely be a Full Moon SE5.
Oh - the one new thing. I got the drive a Spyder with the new soon-to-be-available BRP Ultra Touring Windshield - at least the BRP guy said it was. Best I can describe it - realizing that I have only seen pics of other windshields - is that it looks a bit like Marcel's F1-EVOIII with the ears. Now the BRP extends just beyond the inner edge of the front of the mirror assembly and is within 1/16 of touching it (and probably does under high speed). No interference with the turn signals. It also has a relief vent - liek the Calsci - only smaller. This one was clear and looked quite good with the lines of the Spyder. I think a light/dark smoke would be killer thogh. At 6.0" with stock handlebars and the shields 23" of height I could have gone anothee 2" and still had a sight line over the shield. It did a decent job of wind block although we only got up to short bursts of 50 mph. I could still feel the air stream just at the top of my helmet - the shield could stand a recurve or be an extra 2" tall - for me.
