There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. YE OLDE MERRIE ENGLANDE!!

My mother and Father came to Canada from Scotland.Older brother and sister were born there. Two brothers spent some time over there during ww11.Mother was a Dingwall from county of Turiff

There's a lot of that about; my uncle emigrated to BC in the late 60's. He died last month, but his wife and my cousins are still there.

Mother and Father both gone and the two brothers that were overseas and the one sister that was born in Scotland.

"In the US it's quite difficult to find man-made things more than 300 years old, but in the UK you can be assured that it's almost
as difficult to find things that aren't 300 or more years old." .

My spouse was born and raised in Essex (yes, I've heard the jokes), in a village she describes as "a wide spot in the road with a pub attached." She said she house she grew up in was called at times "the new house" because it was only 300 years old.

So to continue.....

Enough about the floods, already!!
Here are some English street names that may bring a smile to your faces......1560777_806505416033537_256956410_n.jpg

Latest STORMY news from here in Merrie Englande!

It's gusting to about force 11 at the moment and the building is occasionally creaking! :yikes:

So before it collapses entirely I'll post a couple of pics and a link to a video I've found today.

Not pretty.

Video link of Newlyn near Penzance:

Just mind boggling. Is there any end in sight? If my memory is right (memory?) I think force 11 equates to tropical storm force winds here.

Well . . .

"history of Kent which is the English county in which I live"

My mother's family came from Kent some 250 years ago. Not a big deal I know, but interesting to me.

That brought back some memories. I was in the UK back in 94 and love it except for the smog in London. Visited London, Stratford, Nottingham, York and Dover. Loved it. Have a pint of Tiger for me.

Well there's a great reduction in the smog in London!
Yes! I like a pint of Tiger! It is an Asian beer but it's very good and brewed here too.Tiger.jpg

There's a brewery in Leicester (pronounced Lester!) That also make a bitter called Tiger.....not often, if ever, seen down here in the south.

OK That's all in Merrie England for a couple of days! I've now got to drive to a meeting in Northampton....not my favourite trip, back tomorrow night, weather permitting!

So another year and some more pics from Merrie England!!

I'm going to try to start where I left off and get a few pics of my area of England posted.
Here goes.
A coupla weeks ago I took a ride down to Hastings (You know! 1066 and all that!) and took a few shots in the fishing
boat area. Also the East Cliff lift is in a couple. This funicular was opened in 1903 and is still working well today!
The tall black wooden huts were used to dry fishing nets in earlier times......they were also repaired in those huts.
As usual click on the pics for the larger version.

BONUS!!!
I found a short clip of that lift on You Tube

No Roger...Some are real crap!! I choose to use the pubs that serve 'real ale' and not the mass-produced rubbish
that passes for beer in some places! (containing chemical flavor enhancers and nitrogen + preservatives)
As the price of most beer is around $5.50 a pint (20 ounces) I may as well hunt out the better places!
It just happens that many of the better pubs are old establishments.

Good old blighty

I miss it too, was born and raised in Warwickshire, steeped in history. Let the UK in 1971 when I joined the Army, spent most of the next 12 years in Germany before returning to the UK.
Have now lived in New Zealand for the past 3 years, but plan to return to the UK every 2 years to visit our family. Next trip will be June 2015.

Just to let you all know....

....that I haven't given up with this thread. I'm going to be packing my camera on every trip out
whether on the Spyder or in the car,
Yesterday was the first day of the UK coarse fishing season and I was down by my favourite river
dangling my tackle in the water!!

Another snap from the hard drive!!
This is a picture of the old part of Aylesford village where I live.
I've seen pictures of this village in art and craft shops all over the world!
The river is the river Medway and one of the dwindling number of navigable rivers in England.
The church is quite old, possibly 600 years but if you really want to know then visit here:
