YANOT (Yet ANother Oil Thread) 22 RTL - anyone tried Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel oil?

Hi,

I am coming up on my first oil change for my 2022 RT Limited. In researching oil, the owner's manual states:

"Use a 5W40 4-stroke SAE synthetic engine oil meeting or exceeding the
following lubricant industry specifications:
API service classification SJ, SL, SM or SN"

I know about Rotella T6, and used it for years in my Kawasaki Nomad. I am curious if anyone has tried Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck Full Synthetic Oil? I tried to search on here, but didn't find any results.
The label on the oil says it's API CK-4, CJ-4, CI-4 PLUS, CI-4 - API SN, SM.

If anyone has any insight on this product, I'd appreciate hearing it.

That Rotella is ....PERFECT .... for your Spyder ..... since you live in a warmer climate State I would use the 10-40 version. ..... Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd if you buy it at Walmart your likely to save money ..... PS the Rotella is also JASO MA II rated and that's as good as it gets ..... Mike

Any quality oil that meets the manufacturers specifications is fine. I too use the Rotella, but use 15W-50 because of the heat in North Carolina.

Works great for the engine in my John Deere but, the wet clutches in the trans & PTO require different oil. I would not put it in my RTL. Besides that, it's about $35.00/gal (+/-) at Walmart and there are many, more reasonable alternatives out there.

Well The REAL price at Walmart is actually $ 24.73 ( today - on-line & at the store ) ..... annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd I believe JASO II is the highest rating any oil can have ...... just sayin :ohyea:.... Mike

My apologies, I was not referring to Rotella. I thought the original question was regarding the use of Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel; which, according to the Mobil website, does not include a JASO II rating.

This "turbo diesel oil" must be the best stuff on the planet! I have owned and been on many forums (M109, 2nd gen Vmax, BMW K1600, and Mustang), and they all have at least 2-3 threads talking about how this stuff is there go to oil. It is kinda like the cure all for any engine. I personally will stick with what is suggested in the owners manual, at least until the warranty is out on my vehicles. But good luck.

It needs to be a JASO MA2 rated oil, as Mike states. Just about anything will do you better than the OEM blended oil, as that breaks down fairly quickly. But JASO MA2 is imperative.

How true, and the BRP is blended, which is fine, but for the price? I'm a T6 user, but everyone has a choice.

Blended means you're getting 10% synthetic and 90% mineral oil. I compare it to taking 10% of the finest artesian spring water and mixing it with 90% tap water. Would you buy this drink?

This is why BRP's blended oil begins to break down quickly after 4,500 miles. And why the original oil service interval was 4,500 miles.

Now it's your machine. And I fully support owners doing what they think best. But it doesn't hurt to make choices based upon all available information.

Actually, there is no API standard for synthetic blend motor oils. It is generally thought that synthetic blends will contain no more than 30% synthetic content. There are no industry standards for minimum amounts of synthetic content.

That is true. And since BRP gives no specs on their oil, it is hard to know. However, the great majority of blended oils are in the 10% range. It might be that the BRP oil has 30% synthetic. But the fact is, it begins to shear quickly after 4,500 miles. This has been documented with a number of tests.

I like the T6 when I had a couple of Kawasaki Vulcans and now for the Spyder as well as the John Deere 4600 that is currently moving the snow while the RT-L is on the table going through installation of TriAxis handlebars, LED headlights and a Pedal Box.

I have had difficulty trying to source T6 from Walmart, but just sourced 3 gals from Home Depot in Apache Junction. Price is close to the same as Walmart. Since I have two RT's to do I need 3 gals each time. I purchased my filters from Baja Ron, and take the used oil to Walmart for disposal as they will take up to 5 gals per trip.
I have been using T6 in all our Spyders since or 2014 RT ( it had 84,000 miles on it when we traded it in), and our 2021 has 37,000 miles on it with our 2020 having over 61,000 miles on it.
My change interval is every 9000 miles after the frist 3000 mile change. Never had any engine oil related problems.
