• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Y gaskets question?

I didn't notice any difference in the volume until I bought a shorty this year. I normally wear a full face. Every since I bought the spyder. I've always had to wear boots, because of right side heat. The few times I did were tennis shoes. I couldn't stand it. If it never had a gasket? I'm wondering why it was never discovered by the dealer. It was serviced/worked on by 2 different dealers. I guess if you think there is a gasket there. You don't look to see if it's missing. My fault for not going over the spyder with a fine tooth comb. I could be wrong. I just didn't see any remnant of a gasket at all. Was hoping someone with more experience than me could shed some light on this. I'm wondering what kind of effect running it without a gasket for so long it would have on the engine. I have different issues with the spyder ever since I bought it. Nothing real bad, but I felt like it didn't perform as well as other spyders I've been around.
 
I didn't have anything in mine either when I put in the Honda gaskets. I know there was one as Forest gave it to me last year and watched me put it in.

That was before we went to LA last year and it was gone by the time I went to Spyderfest this spring.

You are not imagining anything!
 
Changed mine this morning. Look at these pics and tell me if you think my spyder ever had a right side Y gasket. I didn't even have to loosen the clamp. The right side slipped off when I got everything to go. I couldn't find any evidence of a gasket ever being there. Is this normal? Not having even a little piece of gasket left.

Looks too clean to ever have a gasket ,BUT if you were riding long enough with a broken gasket the pieces could in your muffler/ cat?
When i put new gaskets in, the right side had just little black remnants of gasket i assume the rest are down in the muffler. :yikes:

I think the opposite happens. The pieces are blown / burned out into the engine compartment and mix in with the general road dirt that gets in the engine compartment. If the gasket totally burned up, I don't think that you'd necessarily have any residue of it left. I don't think it melts onto the pipe or anything like that.

No way, if the gasket breaks a part it has no place to go but down into the muffer with the exaust flow.

I had no evidence of a gasket on the right side either, but I did notice the popping sound on deceleration getting more frequent that's why I changed the gaskets & now hardly any popping.

:dontknow: I guess the easiest way to tell would be to take off the muffler when changing the gaskets and shake it around to hear if there's loose bits of exhaust gasket floating around in the muffler. Maybe the pieces could be shook out of one end or the other.

When i changed my Y gaskets and seen that most of the right side was gone, [90%] i duct taped a small hose to the large hose from my shop vac. and put it down the pipe from the gasket end. Little pieces of gasket came out. I really didn't think they would do any harm, I just wondering as to where the pieces went.??
 
The factory gaskets have a tendency to crumble, flake or what every you want to call... and once they start to crumble they blow out pretty quick until you have nothing left. One way to prevent some of this is to keep the clamps tight. Tighten them at every oil change. Ken krb1945
 
Randy there was very little of mine left when I changed them out at 12k miles. I put BRP gaskets back in because I had already bought them, but will go with the Honda equivalent next time.
