Wife has requested Sat Radio, What are your thoughts to the BRP Kit or what is a good option to fulfill this request.

There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I went cheeeep, and mounted an XM receiver in the top trunk:
Since I rarely change the channel: I don't mind not having that control at my fingertips.
Oh! You can also see my I-Pod sitting there next to the plug!

Not being able to change the channels "on the fly" with my setup: $50! :thumbup:

From the get go I ordered the BRP Kit. Had dealership install and for 5
years I thoroughly enjoyed the flexibility, the last two years I did not
renew on the bike, but I can at anytime as they are constantly asking
me to return for $30 for 6 months.
When I subscribed to xm satellite radio for my Spyder I was constantly
changing the channels on a long ride across country or in the desert to
Vegas. Found it would help stimulate my mind to keep me awake and
alert. (Thats also what I told my wife) Believe I could have 6, or maybe
8 presets. Along with using the AM and FM presets. So there was a lot
of variety between news channels music and Howard 100
I don'r ride enough now to have the XM other than in my home, and
there I pretty much just listen to Howard Stern interviews.
So if you put on at least 10K miles per year, I would go with the BRP kit.
Please let us know what you decide.

Try trunk first
You could always try the less expensive route first, and if the wife truly misses being able to change channel, then invest in the full blown installed unit.
My wife and I have the Sirius in the trunk, and also have the Bluetooth headsets, if either wants something different, we just switch to our iPhone play list and are good to go.

Looks like it will be BRP, she was not keen to the idea of not being able to change the station. I thought I was going in with a good sale...not even close, guess I need to sharpen my skills. :shocked:

I bought an Onyx radio from SiriusXM and I mounted it on my handlebars. It comes with a car kit and right now for Fathers day I think they have it on sale. You tune it to play thru an enpty FM station and that's what I do locally. When I am traveling and the station I used becomes crowded I have a cord with a 3.5mmRCA plug that goes into the radio and the other end goes into the Sena dongle that I use and it will play into my helmet that way. Only problem is I have to remember to go turn the radio all the way down or I get two sound channels. Anyway mounting it that way I can change it to what ever channel I want right there on the handlebars. Picture is coming.

I have one subscription to Serius and use it in 3 different vehicles. Even though all vehicles have radios that are Sat-ready, I use portable docking stations and just move the Serius head from vehicle to vehicle. The Spyder docking station is in the (rear) trunk and I have no problem with reception with the antenna in the trunk too. But, if I want to change channels, that needs to be done at a fuel or butt break.

Mount it here and run the aux cable to the trunk and mount your antenna where ever.....

If you have another XM equipped vehicle with a active account, you can download the XM App on you phone, iPhone or Android, link you phone app to your XM account, then use that app to listen to your XM radio when hook to your bike radio set to iPod. thats what I do.

Seriously, I was going to install a mobile mount in the trunk for our XM radio unit. I've already done that with each of our cars, plus our travel trailer so I thought that was a natural. But Jane said no - whether she is riding or driving when on a bike she wants to enjoy the sights and sounds around her and not be distracted by radio.

I had a BRP XM radio and a CB on my 2011 RT. I kept the XM when I traded for my 2014 RTL. I was told by the dealer that I could not have both on my 2014. I could only have one or the other as BRP had changed the wiring harness so only one could be installed. I have not contacted BRP. Is this true? With the prices BRP charges, it seems they would design a harness for most any electronics......?

As far as the wiring harness is concerned .... I find this hard to believe ...... It is not cost effective for any vehicle manufacturer to have multiple wiring harnesses .... they are usually the same ....but not ALL features are connected .... many Spyders owners have found that they can cheaply activate CRUISE control because the wiring is there !!!!! ..... It's did-heartening dealers don't know what they are selling or care enough to check !!!!!!......... Mike :thumbup:
