There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. XM Radio Question

Cruising RT

New member
Hey Ya'll, I'm wanting to add a XM radio in my trunk, (14' RTL) and have read several previous post and need some suggestions and clarifications please. First of all, the radio, looking at the Onyx, would this be a good choice?:dontknow:, Second, I have the Sena Bluetooth SMH10R headset and the Sena SM10 Dongle. If I decide to purchase the XM radio, will I be able to hear the radio through my BT headset?:dontknow: Do I need to purchase a vehicle kit with radio?:dontknow: How will I hook up the XM so that I'm able to hear music through bike speakers and my headset speakers?:dontknow: Any pics on install would help. Thanks in advance for everyone's help.:bowdown::bowdown:

All you need is the BRP provided MP3 player cable!

I would suggest that instead of the hockey puck antenna you use the following or similar

I suggest the car kit using the fm modulator for listening through the bike speakers the volume is higher then using the media plug and going through the aux option I've done both and prefer the fm modulator unfortunately you won't be able to change stations with either one while ryding.but i'm just a 70's only so its not a problem and I also put the antenna it just lays on top of the psgr backrest works perfect

Here's my setup

I have a 2014 rts with the setup your describing, I believe. I have the vehicle dock for my older sportster model Sirius and I purchased the USB power cord. I then added a USB style power adapter into the existing trunk cigarette adapter because I was having issues with the stock Sirius 12volt adapter wiggling loose during rides, plus I can power another USB device now. I then used the auxiliary cable that came with the spyder with the 3.5 mm end to just plug my satellite radio into the aux port in trunk. I ran antennae from right side of trunk and that's it. Only down side is the inability to change stations while driving.

So is it necessary to use the cradle or can I just Velcro back of unit and stick to trunk?

Where have you mounted your antenna? A friend suggested putting antenna between the interior and exterior truck lid. He has XM radio and I kinda think his antenna may be more on the clam design, Would this antenna fit there?

How difficult would it be to mount XM near handlebars? Would I be able to find a cable long enough to hook this into my trunk so that it runs through the speakers? I'd like the opportunity to change channels on the fly.

Yes, the cradle is what has the actual plugs for power, antennae and audio out. I would be careful on mounting unit outside of trunk, it should not get wet or it could end up ruining the unit.

Left side; cable snaked behind passenger seat.
I also bolted the antenna in place.

For that kind of control over the system: you might just as well pop for the OEM XM radio... nojoke

FYI on remote

My sportster remote did not work through the trunk so you might need to experiment with the location to see if you can find a spot that will still see the remote. Let me know, I'm curious if you can find a spot.
