XenonDepot HID kit simple question

Is the yellow pad with the 3M on either side (that is included with the kit) to be placed between the ballasts to act as an insulator?

Previously my HID kit was installed by Jody at ESI and the ballasts were not close to each other; they were under the dash on either side. I just placed the ballasts behind the cluster tonight and wired tied them together. About an hour later I realized the yellow pad, which I didn't use, looked like an insulator.

Can someone with HIDs or knowledge of help me?

When I installed mine I went by Phil's how to http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?24907-Phil-s-Mods/page4&highlight=xenondepot but I just read back through it and don't see where the double sided tape is used. Could it be used to mount the ballast?

The 3M pad is meant to adhere the ballast to a flat surface as an alternative to mounting with fasteners. I personally would not mount the ballasts to each other. They are designed to dissipate heat. If you tie them together they cannot do that as well. Heat kills electronic components. Mount them seperatly and they will last longer.

It's just for mounting. Some people stick the ballasts together... or zip tie them. You should be fine.....

Hi,

I would not suggest mounting the ballasts together. I would also suggest utilizing the tie straps supplied with the kit and not solely rely on the 3m double sided tape.

update

Long story short, placing the ballasts together is a bad idea like others have said. On my spyder it causes the scrolling message on start up to appear twice, as was covered in another post.

I only ordered and installed a replacement ballast from you; both ballasts are now behind the cluster, but separate. The original kit was from ESI. At least for the present time the second scrolling message no longer appears after start up; this was covered in another thread.
