• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Wrapped my Spyder

OP Spyder

It took a while, but the end result is pretty awesome.
This is the "Black Cherry" pattern from World Class Wraps. Peter is the artist (yes that word absolutely fits!) and is an awesome guy to work with. When we first contacted him, he had just one pattern for the RT but several for the RS. We didn't really want pinstripes and so we asked if he could adapt one of the RS designs for the RT template. He was pretty open to it and wow, not only did he do the design we asked for, but he did it in 6 color combos and then added about 3 other designs, some in multiple colors.
When we first got this wrap in, we were really impressed, then when we took it outside and were amazed at the depth it showed in the sunlight. He had used a blue halo fading to black around most of the red. While it looked gorgeous, we thought it wouldn't be the best choice for our black Spyder as the blue sometimes went right out to the edges of some of the pieces. We contacted Peter and explained our concern that this might re-inforce the stick on aspect of the kit and that we thought that a totally black background would help give a better illusion of custom paint. Peter redid the kit with a full black background and swapped it out for no additional charge.

As you can see this covers almost every painted surface of the RT - nearly 60 pieces in all.

Awesome job. I am thinking about wrapping my RS. Was it hard to do? I am worried that I would not put it on straight, or leave bubbles.

It is not hard, but you will need to switch to decaf before you start. ;) You must have a great deal of patience. If it is possible, Ann suggests starting on a flat surface as this will help you get a feel for the process before the harder ones come into play. However, if you have a pattern that runs from piece to piece, this may not be possible since you sort of have to anchor the pattern with the right piece. She started with the frunk while I was at work and there are many concave curves and all kinds of angles. She said the first piece took about an hour. The second one was about the same - there were 4 pieces for the frunk in this kit. I tried one, but we both soon realized that I was better suited to be the assistant and not the installer. There are some small bubbles on the frunk. :( Thankfully, you have to get close and look at the right angle to see most of them.

Once we got past the frunk, there were several pieces that were flatter and this really helped to understand and master the process. You have to mist the surface with water and this allows you to lift and re-position the piece. Then you use a smoothing tool to work the bubbles (air and water) to the edges. You use a bit of heat from a hair dryer to allow the vinyl to form to the Spyder's uneven surfaces. The last two pieces were the saddlebag doors. These have an edge that runs the length of the door coming into a serious concave bit near the front. These pieces took about 30 minutes each, but after the experience of doing the rest of the bike, there are no bubbles at all here.

She said I was a good assistant. I cleaned the next area with alcohol, cut off excess backing paper, misted, ran the hair dryer and provided moral support.

Absolutely fantastic and kudos for your patience.......of which I have NONE! You can always come to Dallas and help me out:helpsmilie: ;)

OP Spyder........................

I'll be looking for you on the streets of Overland Park..................

Awesome design, and congrats on the job of the install and yes Peter is a great guy. I had him custom design the Curse of the Incas for my Rt limited and every where I went on my way to the owners event people kept saying awesome paint job. Do not forget to use a very high end Paste wax like Mequires and do about 3 applications, space them out about every 3 days and you will have a great shine on the wrap.

That Inca design is cool, but I think it might keep us up at night just knowing it was in the garage. :yikes:
We plan to wax, just don't know if we can get that many coats on before we head off on our trip. We have 100 degree heat here in KC this week.

Nice look. I've considered a wrap, or even painting, but I just can't think of any designs I would really like more than plain silver.

Wow, looks great! Can't believe you did all that in this heat, you have more patience and perserverance than I. I'll keep an eye out for you when I'm up your way. :spyder2:

Wow! Looks like a completely different Spyder! If Janet & I ever decide to wrap ours, we'll be calling;) I'm sure I'd be in the same boat, too impatient and in too much hurry...have to talk Janet into this...:roflblack:

Would love to see phots of your RT with this design!

Can you point us to some photos of the Inca design on your RT? I was thinking about that one for my Spyder but didn't see an example bike photos.

Nice and like the bike in the background

Very nice job and if my eyes haven't failed me I believe I see a Kawasaki Nomad in the background of your garage as well. That was my first ride starting five years ago and now alternate ride as well. Could never give up my first love. The wife encouraged me to keep them both. What a woman.
