There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Would you Buy 2013 RT (new)?

I owned a 13 and traded it in on a 14. Took a beating on it, but I am very happy that I did it. No comparison - the 14 is that much better.
To the question at hand - maybe if it was 1/2 the price of a 14, but I would have to think long and hard about it.

my choice is 2014

I had a choice of a highly discounted 2013 or a 2014 earlier this year and I went with the 2014 and love it in everyway. I'm glad I spent the extra money for the 2014. if I'm spending big bucks I want the best I can get and I think I got it on the 2014.
I don't want to settle for less even if it saves some bucks.

Depends....

I actually own a 2013 RT-S. I bought practically new December 2013 with only 436 miles on it. By the end of January I had pulled the Tupperware and wrapped the header pipes all the way back to the CAT input pipes. I then had the two BRP service recalls (software update and fuse box re-seal) done. I have ridden it all summer in hot temps with no problems. I became aware of the reported heat problems on the 2013's after I bought and started researching my nifty new Spyder. I have never experienced what I would call a heat problem. The temp gauge has never went hotter than just a tick above the middle in 98 degree weather. Maybe I got lucky and got a normal running 13 RT-S.

Of course what I would call a "hot bike" was my 2003 Harley-Davidson Ultra Classic that absolutely baked my thighs at stoplights during the summer. My 2013 RT-S :f_spider: after nearly 3000 miles has never broiled me like my old air cooled HD has done.

Knowing what I know now about the 2013s, I would at least take the prospective bike for a good test ride first before committing my hard earned $s.

We noticed that a lot of 2013 Rt are available. With all the recalls & updates that have been done are they a good buy? Are they safe?

What do you think.
I say it depends entirely on your personal financial situation. I have a 2013 RT which I bought used last November with 615 miles on it. I got it for a super price from a motivated seller. For me, it was pretty much buy a Spyder for not much more than what I could sell my Goldwing for, or quit riding. Money was an overwhelming factor.

I have ridden it over 6400 miles this summer so far, a fair amount of it at ambient temps above 90°. The only heat issue that I felt compelled to correct was the hot air coming off the radiator through the upper right hole so I could use highway pegs. I put a block off plate there, removed the panels under the bike, and cut vent holes in the bottom plastic so more air would pass through the lower space. I have had no boiling gas problem, and no burning leg problem. The glove box does get too warm to store heat sensitive stuff in. I have had very little gas smell problem.

Sure, there have been a number of 2013s with problems, but I'll bet at least 80% or more don't. As others have said, the problematic bikes are the ones most likely to be discussed.

If you're going to ride a lot of miles, say 8000+ per year, and can afford it buy a 2014. Not because of the issues with the 2013, but because of the bigger more powerful engine and better gas mileage. If you're going to be a casual rider, say less than 5000 per year, and price is a major consideration, then buy a 2013. The odds are strongly in your favor as far as potential problems with a 2013, and the better gas mileage won't recoup the price difference.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it!

I rarely, as one can see by my # of posts, respond but I had to to yours. I have a 2013 RT Limited (my first SPYDER) and I absolutely love it :D. I used to ride a Kawasaki Voyager (1700 CC's) and it was MUCH hotter than my SPYDER. No hesitation on buying another 2013 here! Good luck with you decision. Happy in Ontario, Canada!
