Worried about my Spyder!!!

Purchased 2011 Spyder RT Limited w/trailer on 8-5-11. Husband already wants money back. Dealer told us the day we purchased the Spyder that we would get 40-50 miles a gallon. Not true. Maybe 25-30 miles at the most is what we are hearing from others. If my husband had known in beginning he would have never made the purchase. Went on 1st ride on 10-8-11 and almost didn't make it back home. Started ride with less than 400 miles on bike. Had full tank of non-ethanol gas, stopped at 1/2 tank and filled up w/high premium ethanol gas. Got 5 miles down road and bike wouldn't hardly run. Started back firing and cutting out. Stopped at bike shop and they put very little gas stablizer in tank incase of bad gas. Dealer came and picked up bike. Dealer wanted to know if we accidently put in Diesel or Flex Fuel because gas was green. I had my receipt so I called gas station. The station doesn't carry Flex Fuel and the Diesel pumps is on 5 & 6, we filled up on pump 2. Dealer said spark plugs were black. They called BRP and was told to replace Oxygen Sensor & spark plugs, still hasn't fixed problem. My husband is so upset. It's now been 3 weeks and no one knows what's going on with the Spyder. Someone told us to best person to contact @ BRP was Carlo. If anyone knows how to get in touch with Carlo, please let me know. If anyone has had the same problems please let us know.

Sounds like someone in the dealer has given you a run for your money. 40-50 MPG's?!?!:yikes: That salesman should be put out to the field and smacked around for making that kind of whopper. Also, I always fuel our :spyder2:'s with 89 or more in ethenol. I also try to avoid small gas stations because some of them don't even label their Kerosene pumps correctly.

Good luck with Carlo. Be sure to let him know about that 40-50 MPG lie the dealer gave you.

When the dealer/salesman told you 40-50 mpg He was trying to make a sale,25-30 mpg is about right.
Green gas most likely is Diesel, off road diesel is red, You filled up went 5 miles and it started to run bad,
Hate to say it, you got Diesel.:(

NEW RT

Yuor RT should run fine on 87 reg. ethyl or non... You should completely drain the gas tank and save it....I am sure the State of TENN WOULD be interested to know what you were sold and the cercumstances surrounding it... There are laws regarding this type of thing and CIVIL LIABILITIES Mike Good Luck PS WELCOME TO THE dealers from hell club

I agree that salesman that told you 40-50 mpg needs to be taken out behind the woodshed...I am now averaging 38...but didn't see that until after 8000 miles on odometer. Green fuel, NOT GOOD.
As I read these I am very sad for you....BUT these are human doings, certainly not your wonderful SPYDER...it and you have become the victim of less than honorable folks. Definitely pursue Carlo at BRP (might take more than one call...he is a very busy man, but very responsive to "we the people" - who really do sign his paycheck!!!) and I would be at this point considering a different dealership...unless that salesman had just started that day you bought...well, ownership goes back to owner of dealership...as far as service station selling wrong fuel...I'd be looking for someone that can help but the HURT on them....
So sorry that you have had to deal with this...and the Spyder is such a wonderful, fun machine...hoping your situation soon moves into the "just a bad memory" folder.

:welcome: Sorry to hear about your issues. Sounds like a bad start. The salesman was surely giving you a line. 30mpg is about average and right. Most here did not buy :spyder2: for the mileage.

The double whammy is that it sounds like you got bad gas. That can happen. I have decanted gas from some interesting looking stations or from pumps that are scarry. So far, I have not run into the bad gas syndrome.

If the salesman is still gainfully employed at you dealer--I would shop around for another servicing dealer if possible.

I don't like dealing with companies that employ known liars. As a prior poster mentioned, give Carlo that piece of information.

I think you will like spyder after you get through the growing pains. Would be surprised if you can bring it back and get your money.

Would love to know what you are doing to average 38mpg. The best that I have been able to get is 31mpg.

29-31 always with ethanol fuel. For whatever reason, there is little or no reg. fuel in south TX that I can find. I put 1/2 can of Wal-Mart whatever cheap injector cleaner every other fill up. BR1 runs like a hose. I had to beat him with a stick to make him shut down yesterday. I have 4,800 on him.

:spyder2:

Sorry to hear about your problems. Salesmen telling customers that the RT gets 40 mpg is more common than you may think. I was at my dealer and heard a salesman tell a prospective customer that he could expect 40 mpg. When I had the customer alone I told he the truth, the RT is a great roadster but 30 mpg is more likely what he shold expect.
