• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Won't go out of neutral

Desert Spyder

New member
I left my bike at the dealer to do the recall and install a riser and there was another bike in the shop because it wouldn't come out of neutral of all things. The service manager says this is the second one since he's been there (couple months I believe) one on a SE5 AND a SM5. My dealer has only sold about 2 dozen Spyders so this is roughly 10%. Has anybody else had this problem and what is the cause?

That's My Spider

I think you are talking about my spider that was towed into B&B over the weekend. I was running fine and then all of sudden wouldn't shift. I did make history because it was the tow truck driver first time seeing or towing one :-) Not sure whats wrong but maybe we can do a stateline ride since we live in the same area once it is running again.

A pleasure to "meet" a fellow High Desert Ryder. Hope they figure out whats wrong soon. I'm going on that Solvang run this Saturday sponsored by West Coast Spyder. Did your situation occur while driving awhile or right after startup?

PS...Lets let it cool off around here first before going to Stateline. I'm in Barstow which is next door to Hell.

I had this happen once when I stopped at a light. I switched it into neutral (becasue I was having the crawl issue) and it wouldn't come back out of neutral. I pulled it off the side of the road and turned it off for a bit. When it came back on and it ran through it's start procedure, I could switch gears again.

I've had it get stuck in 4th gear, 3rd gear etc. at very inconvenient times (almost run over pushing it from a turn lane into a gas station when a lady behind decided she didn't want to wait and went around me.) It's in the shop now for this, the recall, the crawl issue etc. right now.

I got in the habit of downshifting myself when coming to a stop to make sure it switched gears and I wouldn't get stuck at a light again.

If your spyder crawls at a stop light, press the break hard and give the throttle a little blip. This should reengage the centrifugal clutch.

Thanks for the welcome everyone, and the tip on the crawl Bersquack :)

It's in the shop having everything done on it so hopefully it won't crawl, lock up gears or have steering issues any longer but we'll see.

SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH MY SPYDER!!!!!

I HAD MY SPYDER AND IT GOT STUCK IN 5TH GEAR AND WOULDN'T GET OUT. TOOK IT TO SHOP TO GET THEM TO FIX AND THEY GAVE ME GRIEF THEY SAID THAT I HAD BEEN STANDING ON SHIFTER AND BENT THE SHIFTING ROD. THERES NO WAY I WAS STANDING ON SHIFTER. I BABY MY SPYDER. WELL I HAD TO ARGUE TO GET THEM TO PAY AND THEY FINALLY DID. THEY TOLD ME TO EXIT MY VEHICLE ON RIGHT SIDE AND NOT LEFT WHERE YOU COULD BEND UP SHIFT ROD. I ASKED THEM DONT U THINK THERE IS A DEFECT HERE. CAUSE ANOTHER BIKE HAD JUST BEEN BROUGHT IN THE WEEK BEFORE WITH SAME ISSUE. THEY SAID THEY R GOING TO STOP PAYING FOR THIS PROBLEM CAUSE IT WAS CAUSED BY CONSUMER. THATS A BUNCH OF B.S... I HAVE HAD A LOT OF BIKES AND TREATED THEM 10X'S HARDER THAN THAN THIS. WELL THEY PAID BUT GAVE ME GREIF IN THE END. I WAS REALLLY TICKED CAUSE THEY DON'T WANT TO TAKE CARE OF A LEGIT PROBLEM. Well could you let me know what the dealership told you. also what did you find out your problem was. thanks.
