• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Winter Storage

I E-Bayed one for about $6.0 plus another $6.50 for shipping... Deltran sell it for $7.50 plus about $13.50 for shipping...
I searched "Battery Tender cigarette plug adapter cord" to find it...

I plan to add Stabil, check all of the fluid levels, and do the old "Start it twice a month and warm it up" routine...:2thumbs:

This is all I've ever done on my last two bikes. This winter will be my first with the RT.

The secret is you have to run it long enough for the muffler to heat up as well, not just run until the fan comes on.

Of course, I don't think I've ever gone more than 6 weeks without sneaking a ride in of some sort.

I can only imagine that the RT will be ridden even more during the winter.

ok cool so our lighter socket in the rear trunk is hot all the time even with key turned off? never checked it...

Well I got the adapter cord today and had to hook it up to see if it did what it's supposed to... :2thumbs: So simple that even a ninny like me will now have a battery that's ready for battle come Springtime!

Battery Tending via Accessory Outlet

Scotty ...

Good thinking on the rear cigarette lighter outlet! I bought a smart charger/tender, attached a Radio Shack ($8.49) plug to it, plugged it in and whala!

Yah know what I have never winter stored a vehicle in my entire life and I am 66 years old! I have run it about twice or once a month with any second vehicle including race cars for years with no apparent problems. Never used stabilizers in their fuel either. I always run them till hot and then run them back and forth a bit and turn them off till next time. Did that with the RS for two years too. If it ain't broke don't fix it or complicate it either. I get about 5 years out of most batteries in anything I own by just paying attention to the connections and cleaning them from time to time. I do what Scotty says about keeping the tank filled and I change fuel filters in the spring after a good run regardless of how many miles or how new they may be. The yard tractor is on its 5 year of the original battery that came with it and fired off the other day when it was 4 degrees. It works for me and costs much less with no great effort or money spent and no damage so far. Bill :dontknow:

You are in the minority when it comes to running your vehicles occasionally as an alternative to storage. Most people fail to move them back and forth, which is especially important with motorcycles. Glad to see that you do it right! If I had the space to do what you do, and the time to deal with 25 motorcycles and a couple of collector cars, I'd probably do the same. I did in the past. Heated storage would help, too. I do believe in adding fuel stabilizer or draining the fuel system (not just the tank), however. Gas just goes too bad sitting for months on end.

Left mirror, left deflector, left access panel, left middle side panel (oil check panel, left upper middle panel, left rear side panel, battery access panel. There may be a way to bend the panels enough to remove the battery access panel without doing this, but I wouldn't want to risk it. BTW, you will also have to unfasten the seat gas shock or use a small ratchet or plain torx wrench to access the rear battery panel screw. You can buy an adapter from the battery tender (SAE) to a cigarette socket, and just plug into the trunk outlet.

Dang thats alot on the RS you just remove 3 screws on the splash panel and the left side panel and your there. Yep if i had an rt i would go that route.
