• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. As people might know I live in new England and ride year round hit the highway this afternoon a balmy 14 degrees ,,, cruizin along then a tractor trailer came on highway top was covered in snow he saw me cut me off snow was flying off roof of trailer looked like I was driving in a blizzard couldn't see 5 feet in front of me ,,,,, kept watching on my left waiting for a break to pass truck finally came and lucky that spyder has enough power to pass hit about 90 to get way pass the truck ,,,, gave him the one fingered salute as I passed and smiled the rest of the way home :doorag:

I too am riding all winter and not far from you. I have been staying off the highways since it snowed- partly because of what you experienced, partly to go slower therefore a little warmer, and just to take it easier while I get used to how it handles in lousy road conditions.

SO far the biggest surprise has been skidding on decel- there's a lot of engine braking at higher RPMs and I've lost rear wheel traction a few times on slippery roads. Then it skids and the rear wheel wants to come around. On an SE5 there's no clutch to pull in and let it freewheel. I keep the revs down to lessen the engine braking effect.

I tried doing donuts on a big icy area- that's weird! It stalled once or twice- I haven't figured out why. It restarts easily enough. Its a good way to get to know the "nanny"

The nanny is shutting you down, It doesn't like donuts.
Dunkin does, nanny doesn't. :lecturef_smilie:

I think their was some recent bills about removal of snow and ice (regardless if your a small car or big truck). I dont know if they passed they into laws.

Next to impossible to remove snow on top of those big rigs .... and they are usually the one that can cause big problems because of their height and amount of snow and ice.

That bill was just passed in NJ. But there's already a law on the books = It's illegal to deposit a foreign object on the roadways. but Just like the cell phone law it's rarely enforced. :(

MA has laws against leaving snow all over your vehicle- but it doesn't stop a lot of folks from scraping a little hole to peek through and going out on the road to let the wind blow the snow off- against the law, dangerous, never enforced that I know of.

Big trucks- I agree- it's mighty hard for them to get the snow off and mighty dangerous when a big slab of icy snow flies at you. Somebody invent the trailer top snow scraper that truckers can drive under to remove the snow.

There's no excuse for not getting up there and shoveling it off . I have a 30' x 102" trailer that I used to do just that. Last night however I just put it in the heated garage I built over the last year to store the toys and let it melt off since there was still snow on it from the last storm. I will be needing it soon, needs brake work to.

Be glad there wasn't a sheet of ice on the top of the trailer, I had to replace a windshield because of that a few years back.

This is what I imagined. Bad enough if you are in a car somewhat protected. Absolutely deadly exposed on a bike or Spyder.

Glad you are OK Jamie. I can't believe you are out ryding in this. 5 minutes out with my dogs in the yard and I'm freezing! You are made of some tough stuff!!!

Definitely glad to hear you were able to get around him without anything worse happening. Best of luck as you continue to ride in those conditions.

I saw a helmet sticker today that you could use: "Turn Signals Broken, Watch For Finger!" :)
