Winter riding Gear

Well, I purchased the First Gear Thermosuit from Motosports and I have to tell you. It was an excellent choice. Tonight coming home it was only 44 degrees out and I hit the highway at 75 mph and never felt a chill. I had my short sleeve uniform shirt and uniform pants on under it but no extra layers. I also added my Turtle Fur Balaclava (sp) and my leather winter gloves and I was perfect. So for those looking for a good deal on some really warm riding clothes I highly recommend this suit. Also, it is 100% waterproof. They do run long so if you are tall, this is a great way to go.

Motorsports has changed the price of this suit on their web site to $144. I plan to call them tommrrow to see if they will still sell at $80.

I just know that it is going to be down in the 30's the next two nights when I leave work at 3:00 a.m. and I will be very glad I have this suit.

We'll use our Hein Gericke suits complete with body armor, wind & water proof. They are good for year round riding. Put the liner in for cold riding, take it out for warm or hot weather. I rode 350 miles started out at 33 degrees with just a sweat shirt & jeans and perfectly warm. Now the bad part $1000 a set - $600 jacket, $400 pants.

You are welcome but I don't know what I did. I just posted a good product (in my opinion) for folks to be aware of. I hope everyone that orders this suit loves it as much as I do so far. It was 38 degrees coming home last night and once again, I stayed plenty warm at highway speeds.

By the way, just to give you all an idea of how these sizes run. I am 5'6" tall with a 29-30" inseam. I weigh 225 lbs and have rather big hips. I ordered the large size. It fits but I wouldn't want my belly to get any bigger and the legs are quite long. I just pull up the legs and tighten them around the boot and promise myself I will lose weight, not gain any. LOL

I picked up some "UnderArmour" ColdGear pants and top for use under my pants. Granted its just starting to get cold, but a night-time run to Trader Joes in mid 50's they kept me warm. I just need to block the wind from my neck and get better gloves.

My approach to winter riding is a little differentrotect the body first: motorcycle jacket with protection to back, spine, shoulders, elbows and pants with butt, privates, knees and road rash protection.
Full face helmet, motorcycle gloves with knuckle and wrist protection, and motorcycle boots to protect feet and ankle.

I dress in breathable layers to stay warm and use heated grips.

My approach may seem extreme to many, but I try to minimize my risk while maximizing my reward and joy of riding motorcycles and the Spyder.

Dress for the crash and not the ride.
