• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Windshields and Seats Part Deux

Apparently the choice of a windshield is like the choice of a seat. A choice. A personal choice without a lot of explanation why the choice was made exactly. "It just feels right" or some such. Recently read the long discussion of the relative merits of windshields, F4 and California Scientific to be specific. I didn't see any discussion as to why one would want to change the windshield in the first place. And no very specific reasons the choice, whatever the choice was, was made (back to the 'it feels good.) I've been to their websites and each lauded the merits of their product and I was compelled to buy both. Kinda hard to compare as the different numbers (specs) don't seem to stand out. I think thickness and relative hardness were the most significant. I thought the F4 seemed to have the higher values. They were also $390 vice CalSci's $230 or so (I think you have to pay shipping for both). Why would I want (not want) a vent in the windshield. Does it close completely? I ryde in the Winter (I have Gerbing heated gear and all the overs a person could possibly wear. When suited for a ryde, I look much like the Michelin Man) My factory windshield seems to be effective. I prefer to look over but keep it raised some to keep helmet buffeting down a bit. The times I rode in the rain I put the windshield all the way up. Next rain ryde I'll lower it to enjoy the spray or maybe let it clear my helmet visor as several have said they do. Never thought of it. I appreciate all the comments folks make about the various aspects, problems and issues with the Spyder. Many are helpful answering questions that I have or didn't think to ask. I ryde in a town where, I'm told by the dealer, there are many Spyders. But they are apparently never allowed outside their webs. After one year and very frequent rydes on my Spyder in this small town, I actually saw one going the other way last week. One in one year. Must be not that many after all. And I've only spoken to a Spyder owner once and he was in his car at a gas station. I've ridden almost 20K miles and have only seen about three the entire time, always going the opposite direction. We are the few it seems. Scattered like chaff in a strong wind. Let's have a good ryde today!
