Windshield

The first thing I did when I got my RT was to swap the short windshield for the stock tall version, which I like. The brackets are solid and the bolts are properly torqued. However, I use the full range of the windshield, and there must be some play because the windshield support bracket has worn a groove into the windshield, on both sides.

I fixed this by using plastic polish and buffing the grooves out, but the paint on the supports was worn off, and dirt had gotten under the plexiglas.

After cleaning the bracket, I purchased some thin grey pinstripe tape (vinyl), and covered the top (worn) edge of the support.

Has anyone else seen this issue, or is this gremlin unique to my RT??

OK, here are my pics - I took it all apart, and used chalk dust in the groove, replaced the grey tape with black, and re-assembled… Hope these are worth the effort.

There sure is something going on in there... :shocked: Mine doesn't move enough for any "stray" contact between the whindshield and any moving parts.
Maybe your dealer should take a look under the Tupperware to make sure that what should be solidly mounted; is!

I doubt there is a good way out of this unless a rubber gasket or something similar is fitted. The windshield doesn't have to directly contact the support...the crud that builds up in between can move around and do the damage. I have seen a lot of this same "scuffing", not only on the RT, but on some other motorcycles. The best cure is to find an alternate target for your OCD.

In this case, it was actual contact with the top edge of the support. The paint/coating is gone and the groove was "deep". Debris from the area caused a dirty area roughly 3" x 1.5" - highly visible, when parked. I think the real fix would be slightly longer tubes that support the windshield, or a small washer under them. But the damage to the support is already done.

I'll pull it off the winter & paint it.
