Windshield wipers for M.C.

Has anybody ever tried a windshield wiper on their bikes windshield? Thought I saw somewhere in the "dot com" stuff that you could get a wiper for the bike. Don't think I have ever seen one on a bike tho. comments? info? have you got one?

Would wipers scratch the plexiglass wind shield?

I've found regular use of water repellents such as Rain-X works fine, without needing mechanical wipers. Keep an eye on the contents for comparability with your windshield, and always apply to a test patch just in case it does smoke the windshield.

I look over my windshield, not through it. I use it to shield me from wind, rather than as a window.

Well Good For You :thumbup: Hard to believe as it is, but we are not ALL the same and some of us may choose to ryde differently than YOU But thanks for sharing something so unsolicited Now back to the subject at hand

It was a serious consideration last year, when we were still using the OEM Barn-Door of a shield :shocked:

But since we've discovered how much better our rydes are now, with using the shorter but wider Cal-Sci Shields, I doubt seriously if we'd ever go back, at least not without modifying the OEM first. The Cal-Sci's also have a hole in the center bottom area of the shield, and even tho it looks a bit odd, it works really well at relieving the back-pressure and with it being wider, we also get better coverage from the wind, resulting in less noise and less turbulence. and we actually were able to pick two of them up, gently used, from fellow members here on the forum :thumbup: so we actually have a clear Medium & also the Tinted Shorty as well :clap: If we had the funds and were ordering a brand new one, I'd personally order the Large size which would give even more coverage area than we have now, so less adjusting of the shield would be needed like we do now, when ryding in sub-freezing temperatures :shocked:

And with these being much shorter than stock, I don't think there'd really be room for a wiper on them. Tho ryding in the rain is still an issue, and I just asked for recommendations about a RainX type of application to help with water shedding, but made for PLASTIC shields, and Magdave gave a Glowing Endorsement to a product called Rejex and we have a bottle on the way.


Hopefully this stuff will work well, and there will be no need for a wiper then :clap: And whats even better (if it works as claimed) is that this stuff is made for the entire byke :clap: We're suppose to get it on Thursday & if your interested, I'll let you know how it works for us

I'm not sure how long the Spyder's windshield could take the wiper before it got marked up by it... :shocked:
I'll also look over it when it's raining...

Wipers

In the past there were several companies that made wipers for the
motorcycle world, I even tried them on one of my GoldWings but they
will destroy your windshield in no time, scratch's every place the wiper touches
I tried elect. and manual type thinking the motor was the cause but it is the
wiper blade and any dirty or dust on the shield that does the bad stuff.
Plastic or lexan just don't work well with wipers.....

Interesting thread for sure....
Many have commented that wiper will scratch a polycarbonate shield, and that is correct. You can, however run a wiper on an F4 Customs shield if you wanted to have something to clear away rain at lower speeds. The hardcoat will hold up to a GOOD wiper, but with an F4 shield, you will not need the wiper because the rain shedding is above and beyond any other aftermarket shield available. The clarity is perfect, allowing you to look through if you like. We offer the Plus 3 (3" taller, 5" wider) than stock, Stock, or we offer the Sport (3" shorter than stock) for those who want to look over. These can be ordered with a vent or with the stock Can-Am vent holes, and can be tinted or clear. Give us a call with your questions!

I am terribly sorry to have caused offense . . . it was not my intent. Long ago, when I went through a safety class, they stressed that we should look over, not through, the windshield. It was repeated in a trike class I took in July. Please forgive me for having a valid opinion.

How about something for the helmet shield? I've been afraid to use anything like Rain X on it since forum folks gave the thumbs down on it! For me, the helmet shield is more of a problem and using the hand to wipe it just makes it worse.
