Windshield modification..

Anyone out there had any luck in cutting down the stock windshield on an RT? There are lots of how too vids on YouTube, but, it's a pretty scary proposition. I love the stock shield with one exception, when it's all the way down, I have to sit up too straight to look over it. The same goes with my wife on her RT. I would like to trim off about 3 inches..A little wind in the kisser would be nice at times, also I do like looking over the shield in dry warm weather... Len

The best way to go is to step up and spend the money and get the right one so it looks like it came from BRP. Call Evan at ESI, they have three to choose from. You can try to cut the one you have and it might work out. If not call ESI. Just my.02:ani29:

Good suggestion...

I appreciate your .02 cents, keep in mind I have to buy two of them. @ $350 each, that's a whole lot like $700...Ouch, that'll buy a lot of Spidie gas. If I can find someone who can cut the thing down and it looks good, most likely worth the risk.. If it doesn't work.... Plan "B" I suppose... Len

I cutted it two times ... first 2 inch lower and than another 2 inch on each side... to cut it its easy but than you need a ..polish machine (see the pics on my "mods"..)
now i use the up/down button much more often ...chris
(needs less fuel also)

I appreciate the cost. These are big money toys and for me I dont like it when I end up going to plan "B" when there was a good fit ready to go. I have seen the ones ESI have and they look like they came from BRP. With three to choose from. just my.$.02
Good luck let us know what you do.:chat::ani29:

Yee..Haa!!

Glad I waited...found an acrylic and polycarbonate fabricating company 10 miles from my driveway that specializes in cutting and fabricating. They do exclusive work for HD in this area. Beautiful work. $30-$40 per windshield. Now I have lots of $$'s left over for Spidie gas.. Len:2thumbs:

Finished Product

Here is my wife Kim on her RT with the newly cut down windshield. Reduced 3 inches. Total cost... $30. Finished in one hour.. I dropped it off, had lunch and it was finished by the time I got back to his shop. As you can see it is shaped exactly like the original. No runs, drips or errors. It is a flawless job.

Sorry for the glare on the windshield.. I can take and upload better pictures. If anyone is interested.

FYI, here's the contact information. He will do quick turn arounds on windshields shipped to him. Same price, $30, plus shipping.

They did a dandy job! I wished I lived in your area...they could do mine in a heartbeat. I'd like about 1 1/2" off it. Maybe I'll get to it myself, soon, but an expert is always better than an amateur. My Spyder has already logged too much shop time for me to take it out of service to ship off the windshield.

Nervous

Scotty, I figured this guy was either very good or Kim's windshield was in mortal danger, with his doing the job in only 1 hour and for $30. He did come highly recommended by the local Harley dealer. "You get what you pay for"...kept ringing through my head. Also, "Too good to be true". But, as you can see, he did an excellent job...I will be taking mine to him this coming week. Notice I did Kim's first... Whew!! :D...Len

Looks really good, but how come Kim isn't smiling in the photo?:D

Not Smiling

Good question TB... So I asked her and she said..."I wanted to go for a Spyder ryde and you're still taking pictures"... Now get your "Axx in gear..... I said, good answer.. Len

I just had my windshield cut 3" lower at the local Harley shop. It took half an hour and cost $30. They did an excellent job and now it's just perfect when it's all of the way down.. Much better than the "bi-focal" image I had before.

Windshield Position

Sorry it took me a while John,
The position of the windwhield in the picture is all the way down. With 3 inches cut off, all the way down is perfect for looking over without wind blast and all he way up is also excellent for rain protection.. Len

what is the position of the shield in the pic (all the way up? all the way down? etc.)
