There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Windshield measurement?

Not new to adding / changing out motorcycle windscreens but the Spyder's a bit different, with it's swept back design. Squirrel's RS has that tiny, OEM bug deflector... (deflects 'em right into her face!).. so that has to go.

I see quite a few brands / heights of OEM and aftermarket 'shields available. Good.. we've got options. We're leaning towards CHAD.

My question is, when measuring for height, where are we starting from? My guess is at the bottom center of the shield, in the area where it bolts on. Right?

I don't know about measuring height, but I do have a CHAD. I am 6'-2" and have the CHAD set all the way up an all the way back. This puts the top a little above chin height and works great for me. I put my hand about 4" above my head and feel the wind going over the top of my helmet.

How tall is your wife? The CHAD is very nice, but it is kind of like a big barn door. Depending on if she wants to set her RS up for cruising or sport there are many other options that will work well. One that has gotten very good reviews on here as well is the Madstad Robo Brackets.

Squirrel is 5'4". Top of windscreen needs to be about even with her nose. That's where she was happy with all of her other bike's 'shields.

I am 5'9" and the Givi that I have on there now has stopped all of the buffeting my head was getting, while still looking sporty. At 5'4" I would seriously consider looking at the BRP Sport Touring windshield. The Givi is 20" tall while the Sport Touring one is 14" tall. That may just be the ticket for her. Although, I also have to admit that I currently have 4 different windscreens for my Spyder. The CHAD and Robobrackets provide all the adjustability to get the screen right where she wants it as well. So it is not an easy decision.

We're stopping at the dealer this Wednesday to pick up the risers. We'll check out the sport touring 'shield. I saw those brackets you're talking about. I'm sure she'll want them.

Madstad is the way to go. :2thumbs:
I have had several including Chad and nothing is anywhere near as effective, adjustable and versatile. Get the screen Mark supplies with the brackets - it all works well together.

You don't happen to have an SM5? I know I can't bring my CHAD all the way back because the clutch lever hits it; and, I have my CHAD all the way up.

Most shields are measured from the lowest spot on the bottom to the highest spot on the top. Because the cut varies from shield to shield, that means little about how it sits. The angle of the shield, curvature and recurve of the shield, and torso height of the rider are other variables. For that reason, i recommend an adjustable shield like the CHAD or Madstad. At least you get more than one chance to get it right that way.

Excellent point. I'm 6'3-ish and I didn't do enough research on that topic, so I went with the Ultra Touring Windshield. If Ihad to do it over again I probably would have got the Madstad. But the one I have is working well, and it looks good!

also curious

Good question. I was also curious. I have the stock, ultra sport and 23" ultra touring windshields. I checked and it appears they measure the distance between two parallel lines. The top line across the highest point on the windshield and the bottom line across the lowest (bottom center) fixed V-notch on base of the console.

Hope this helps.

FYI, IMHO the ultra touring provides the most functionality and is used the most. The ultra sport looks nice, but doesn't provide much functionality (BTW, clean with a very soft cloth, it scratches very easily :yikes:). The stock windshield falls in-between.

Lots options and good insight from members on this site. Good luck.

If you already have an ultra touring (or can get one cheap) another option is to get just the Madstad brackets. Took maybe 10 minutes to drill the holes nice and clean with the provided bit (thanks!)

Wife is 5'8" and had to duck at anything over 50 with the 23" ultra touring from BRP. With a little tweak from the Madstad all is well at any speed.

Yup. Never had a bike with the 'shield laying back on such an angle. That's where I was a bit confused on how to measure. Appreciate the input from everyone.
