Windshield for 2016 F3ST special edition

I have a 2016 flat black F-3ST special edition Spyder. First trike I've owned. (Bike number 20 for me). I love it, wife feels better that I'm riding this instead of a 2 wheeler. (I'm 67). Bought the F3 in June of 2016. Had them install the "Tall Boy" windshield because the stock was a little small. I don't particularly like the Tall boy shield and have been looking for weeks for a replacement. Found a company I think called Cal Science. They have a 25" shield that fits the smaller mounts for the stock shield. Since the Tall Boy has larger mounts, I haven't been able to find a company that can make a shield to fit it. Have been all over the internet looking. Here in Colorado, there is a company called Clearview shields. They just moved and haven't had the time to do a custom shield for me. Dont' know if they ever will. Anyway, is there ANYBODY that has any suggestions as to where I can go (keep it clean :), to get a custom shield that will fit a Tall boy mounting bracket. I would be willing to travel to get one. Respectfully,

Greg

I have seen the Cal Science on a F3 and thought it looked terrible (my opinion, it looked like a clear 1/2 barrel on the f3) i got the 25" F4 Vented windshield and ilike it very much and so does my wife it keeps her from getting the helmet buffeting that she got with the stock windshield www.f4customs.com

Is this windshield installed with the stock mounts, or could I use it with the Tall Boy mounts. 25 inches is about what I'm looking for. I'll pull up the site. Thank you VERY much.

be Safe Sir!

Can't tell from your post if you have and F3-S or an F3-T (There is no F3-ST) but they require VERY different windshields. Suggest taking a look at the F4 windshields for whichever you have. We have them on our Spyders and have been very pleased with the quality and clarity.

The Tallboy windshield is an option for the F3T/L only. The brackets fit in the same mounting holes as the factory windshield. The problem is the mounting holes in the bracket for the windshield are farther apart. The F4 will not mount on these brackets. Luckily I still had my original brackets when I swapped from Tallboy to F4.

If your Tall Boy windshield is too high why not trim it down to fit.

Use a couple layers of masking tape, draw the top curve to fit your height.
Jig saw with a plastic blade. Then us a file to clean up and radius the raw edge.
Finish polish with 0000 steel wool.

I have cut a lot of windshields with this method.

The finish looks better than the stock windshield.

Thanks everyone. The Tall Boy isn't too tall. Just not wide enough or tall enough. Looking at the 4custom site. I still have my stock mounts, so it shouldn't be an issue. Have called Madstad but still haven't received a call back. I like the looks of both, but the Madstad would be easier to mount, since I wouldn't have to re-install the stock mounts. At any rate, THANK YOU to all who took the time to help me. Have been looking since June. Came here and got the help I needed. By the way, I've figured out what kind of bike I have. It's a 2016 F3-Limited special series "S". Flat black. Death gripped it for about 200 miles before I figured how to let go. I look cooler than I really am, when I'm on it.

Hi Greg,

Sorry that you missed us here at MadStad. I have checked our voice mail system and can not find your call.
So if you would please call me at my direct line and ask for Jerry 352-848-3056. I will be happy to take care of any and all questions
that you may have.

Hi Greg;

I have the same issue with the Tall Boy I have installed. If you could keep us posted as to what you decided and how it came out. FYI I LOVE MY F3 Limited.

Thanks
Bill

Hi Greg;

I'll get back when I get it installed. The tall boy was only 23 inches across at the bottom (with the tall boy mounts in the same "stock" mount position. The only difference was that the tall boy mounts were bigger. Windshield was the same width, but it dropped down to 14 inches across at the top and was 20 inches tall. I see that Madstad sent a message for me to call, so I'll check with them first. Still have the stock mounts, but seems like it would be easier to take the tall boy shield off and the mounts, and use what Madstad has. Taking a tape measure and measuring up from the gas cap, the tall boy shield is about 19-20 inches to the bridge of my nose. (I prefer to look over the shield). I'll let you know after I talk to them. Still have to figure out the tint part too. Seems like the darker would be better. Don't do much night driving. It's all about looking cool. When I was born, I had the choice to either be good looking or smart. Obviously there was another option somewhere!

Madstad shield installed

Well.....I got the 22 inch Madstad windshield installed. It replaced the Tall Boy that I had installed before I picked the bike up. Here's the scoop. Jerry was WONDERFUL. Very patient, understanding, informed and just a general "nice guy." I had a little trouble in the beginning because I tried to screw in the wrong bolt in the wrong place. (story of my life). For the layman, the picture that was provided by them was VERY helpful as to how and where to put the bolts. Because I'm not a "wrench", I wound up trying to screw in the "phillips" head bolt into the mounting brackets that bolt to the dashboard. DUH! When that was straightened out to me by Jerry, it all came together.

Bill: If you already have the tall boy installed, I needed a TORX 20 to unscrew the mounting brackets from the bike and a TORX 30 to unbolt the windshield from the brackets. I used a 4MM allen wrench to bolt the Madstad brackets to the bike, and I used a "Phillips" screw driver to bolt the shield to the brackets. The picture calls out m6-5/16 screws, etc., All of which I didn't know what they were talking about. After Jerry squared me away, it all went well. I do have just a suggestion. Because I installed it myself, it was a little more difficult to get the windshield screwed onto the brackets. Kind of hard to hold the shield, put on a spacer, windshield and a rubber washer and get them in all 4 holes at the same time. Would suggest bringing in another to help hold "stuff." In the end, it only took me about 15 minutes. I'm going to ride and use the knobs to raise and lower the shield if I need to. I got the dark shield, (one step below the darkest. Looks cool. By the way, Thanks Australia. Glad we are all lookin' sharp. (in our own minds). I'm 6' 1" with a 32" inseam, so the 22 inch shield was just perfect for me. I have room to adjust up or down a couple of inches, so with some minor adjustments, it should work out perfect. Be careful to ensure the shield is horizontally straight. Unscrewing the knobs, also allows for the shield to not be perfectly horizontal. Just some minor moving up and/or down of the shield, made it fine. Overall.........great looking shield. Mounting brackets are solid and pretty much NO movement of the windshield when everything is tightened up. We'll see if that changes much at 100 MPH!. I recommend this shield. Height, width are WAY different from the Tall boy. The Tall boy shield was an oxymoron. Nothing "tall" about it. I'm happy........finally.

F4 Customs windshield for the F3 Limited and Tour

The F4 shield does mount to the original brackets and for anyone who purchased the Tall Boy option you should have received the stock brackets and the stock shield with your bike. This is standard with any purchase and the Tall Boy comes with additional brackets.
Hope this helps.
