• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Windsheild

I just smoked my own :D

Well hubby and I just got back from a 200 mile ride and I just got the CHAD in yesterday. Hubby put it on while I was at work. We went for a ride, and it only took two short stops to get it perfect. I am 5' 0" and he is 5'9". So the CHAD is ideal for us, when I let him ride the spyder. I get clean air and little buffeting. It work well, but I can see what Lamonster says about the backdraft wind, but my clothing fits a little more snug than his.

Okay - I now see they offer it with the 1/2 smoked version--- gonna order one Monday (doesn't appear you can order online from NMN).

.
My $0.02. Both will probably break off in a front end collision as your body hits it... if that's your concern.

The four tiny screw mounts will probably break off (in one piece) with the polycarbonate (Lexan) leaving you intact... at least from the shield.

However, the Acrylic (plexiglass) may itself break and leave shards that resemble knives. That's the guillotine scenario. See the pic below of an acrylic shield broken with one brick dropped from eye height.

Also, think of what's more likely to happen. A rock or object thrown by a car or truck? Which shield survives? Which one shatters and leaves you with knife-like shards coming at you.

I've even seen flying two-by-fours, four-by-fours, ladders, chairs, paint cans, etc.

My vote, dollars and health are going with with the polycarbonate (Lexan).

Polycarbonate is a better material....:agree:

I have just been out on the highway and I cannot really tell any difference in airflow with the corners cut off. :dontknow: Lamont - how about you??

How does it look - got any pics?

I haven't taken pics recently (I can tomorrow a.m. if you need) but here're three photos from when Pat and Ev delivered the CHAD in their "scooter car."

Ev and I called it "smoked" but it's really got that fine black-out dot pattern that looks like the bit around the rear view mirror on a Subaru, rather than a dark tint like on my F1.

You can see it fade to clear up top.

You're sick of reading about it, but I really like it. I just tonight took Lamont's and Scotty's advice and put a RamMount from NMN on the CHAD mounting hardware, which puts my GPS higher up and a bit further away fromm my head, as well as putting it well under the protection of the CHAD (it had pooped out on the last long ride in the rain) , so just one more benefit to the CHAD hardware.

What ever happened to the BRP ultra touring windshield and how does it compare to the Chad?
I've tried calling Mike Jannuzzi but haven't heard anything.

As of Friday, both BRP Ultra Touring Shields show "backordered" on BRP's system, which means they are not yet available and no delivery date is projected yet. Their accessory book and their parts system show part numbers for both sizes, but the BRP Web site shows only the smaller 23" shield. This is not a good sign. I wouldn't hold my breath.

I'm going to throw another vote out there for the Cal Sci. I received mine from Magic Man on Friday and did a fair amount of interstate and side road riding today. I love it! It doesn't look quite as cool as the original equipment shield, but it is very effective. It's well worth the trade-off in my opinion.
