• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Windows 8. I hate Microsoft

Are your Windows 7 machines running 64 bit though?

That's where the problem seems to be...

All 400 of mine are and have never seen that kind of issue. We aren't running IPv6 though. Not sure why you would be either in a home system or even a small business situation.

Way to technical for me on some of this. I have Windows 7 and am very happy with it at this point. No desire to jump to new and better at this time. I have a big problem with anything technical--so most of the time I let them get the bugs worked out first.

I did jump in when it came to :spyder2:,s though and had no problem with two initial entry machines.

The problem is, I didn't upgrade the OS because I had a hankerin' to try the latest and greatest.

You CANNOT buy a retail computer that doesn't have Win 8 on it.

I'm reading a lot and what I see is that Win8 is a really good operating system. The UI is awful. I think I can run Classic Shell or Start8 and be OK.
The specific issue is, the GEEKS love new software and get enjoyment out of figuring out all the new instructions.

I'm one of the 90% who isn't interested in all the "cool" features of the software. I just want it to work. I need to MAKE charts, not FIGURE OUT how to make them.

My 10 year old trusty Dell XP died a painful death in December. A friend works on computers for his hobby. He ordered the parts from newegg and assembled me an awesome computer for $450.00. By doing this I told him to put WIN 7 on it NOT win 8!!!

AHHHHHH------------------I'm feeling MUCH better now !

Evidently, I'm not the only one.
Finally, one of those software geeks realized that to the greater masses, the computer is not an end unto itself.
It's a tool that is used to help create a larger result.
Having to master Win 8 would be like working on your Spyder, only to find out you need a special tool to fix something and you have to first spend HOURS learning how to use the tool.

Anyway, clearly I'm not the first person to have trouble. For an additional investment buying two programs for $9.98, POOF, the problem goes away.

Start8 and ModernMix take care of the whole thing.

Given Microsofts history of absorbing add-ons (when was the last time anyone used WinZip?), I imagine the next service pack of Win8 will have these mods.

IPv6 was created because knowing in the future that we would run out of IP addresses in IPv4, v6 assigns IP #'s in a different format allowing many more to be used. I have both Macs and windows based machines, and work in the IT dept at the gov't of Canada. Both operating systems have their pros and cons, more of a personal choice. Only time will tell if windows 8 becomes another VISTA or ME!:yikes:

Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is the latest revision of the Internet Protocol (IP), the communications protocol that routes traffic across the Internet. It is intended to replace IPv4, which still carries the vast majority of Internet traffic as of 2013.[1] IPv6 was developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to deal with the long-anticipated problem of IPv4 address exhaustion.
