• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hi Ravi

I don't know if that tire will fit on the spyder but i did notice you drive a vw tdi and that reminded me of something i learned awhile back [ok a couple of decades ago] but for best traction in snow use a narrow tire now i know that rule applies to cars i can't say that about the spyder cause i don't know but it theory it should. Oh by the way i use to have a 1973 vw bug and the narrow tires was 1 of the reasons they did very well in the snow. :coffee:

thanx we love our TDI it;s 05 PD gets around 50 MPG we got new in 05 it;s her car i have 08 Honda ridgeline perfect truck i know some pepl don;t see it as truck but what i have used it for it truck. ne way thanx. i'll keep checking to see if someone esle know good tire for snow rain for spyder .

Ravi,

Just in case you didn't notice, the stock size is 225/50/15. You selected a 60 series tire there.

There are alot of threads about auto tire alternatives on this site. Search for "rear tire".

I think you will find out that messing with the dimensions too radically will mess with the sensors. One Spyderlover tried a taller tire, and the Spyder popped up faults.

If you are looking for low cost auto series tires I have found a place that most time is much cheaper than tire rack.

It is www.treaddepot.com

I hve found their service to be top notch and their prices very, very low.

Still holds true, Narrow tire for snow. [it bites down to the pavement]
Wide tire for mud/sand. [it floats] I ran two VWbugs into the ground, 71
then a 73. Drove into Manhattan every day never missed a day of work
because of snow!

It is time for me to get a new rear tire again as well. I thought the Kumho Ecsta did a pretty good job and gave me as many miles at the OEM tire for half the cost. I see on the side that Evan posted www.treadepot.com, the Kumho is only $44.00 and I thought I got a great deal at $68.00 or something like that. Anyway, after doing a lot of checking out and reading, I am planning on ordering this tire from www.treadepot.com. It is the Toyo Proxes 4. It is $77.00 plus $16 shipping I think. Here is the photo.

I just picked up a Toyo from a local place called Discount Tires. No shipping and paid only 75 out the door. They did state it was the last one they had but not sure if that was just local distrubtion or what because they had it the next day. Now to get the dang thing installed.

Being a new driver to the world of motorcycles. I can use a 225/50/15 Auto tire for my rear tire on the spyder?? For some reason I was thinking I had to have a motorcycle tire... I know I am a noob...

Car tires have the same flat contact patch as the Spyder tires. A traditional motorcycle tire doesn't have the large flat contact patch that the Spyder tires have because motorcycles lean in turns.

Short answer is yes. For some of us the auto tires are providing better mileage than the OEM Kendra's. I only got 8K out of my OEM and that was running it until it was smooth as a table top.

I can't find the thread, but someone tried that size and got VSS failures. Nanny doesn't like the funky speed readings it gets with a taller tire. You're better off staying with stock size. However, I couldn't find a single all-season type tire in that size. Got the BFG G-force and like it in rain and dry, but forget ice. Don't know if any tire would have done good on what I was trying to ride on though. My Lady's Durango even had issues and it has M+S tires.
