• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Why can't TV shows be like this now?

That was a great time for television.
the lawyers hadn't fully taken over and the PC idiots weren't around yet,
And offended had not become a way of life

OFFENDED is now classified as a religion :yikes::yikes::yikes::banghead::banghead:

Now you've done it.... you have offended me.
Now I will have to find a sleazy lawyer that will sue!
Maybe I can get a class action lawsuit.
If anyone else is offended by this, please contact me at Dewy Cheatem & Howe.

I thought 'Offended' was a career path!

Being offended is certainly a profession for some folks now . . . at every social strata.

Can you imagine Mel Brooks trying to make a movie today?

I loved Blazing Saddles, Space Balls, Robin hood men in tights, and so many other of his un-politically correct movies.

I was watching Ponderosa the other night and they openly talked about God and believing and trusting in God. There was no language that a child could't hear, and there was a moral to the show. What has happened to those days? Do you think a show like those could even make it today?

Maybe its because I am getting old, but I sure don't like a lot of the new crap on TV and miss those old variety shows, sitcoms, and TV shows.

The Good Old Days! Not sure they could find enough people with enough of an IQ to be able to understand good quality humor these days.

:agree:
also shows like Archie bunker and many more
Bob Hope and Lucille Ball were 2 of the biggest stars ever
Most comedians today copy the great comedians of the past
Like Jim Cary --- Jerry Lewis
Siegfried And Roy --- Laurel and Hardy
and on and on and on

I've got to disagree. In 1969 there were three networks that were heavily censored in many respects because they broadcast traditionally and had to be generally kid friendly. The shows weren't sophisticated, and came nowhere near to the quality of movies.

Today, with our myriad of channels, there are over 100 series in production, and we have access to shows like Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and even comedy like Inside Any Schumer. Much of television is actually better and more sophisticated than most movies (House of Cards), and the visual quality is better than it has ever been (from the cinematography to the effects).

If you don't like those shows, there are so many others to choose from that you can still discover shows that have been running for years that you've never heard of.

I understand the nostalgia for what spoke to us in our youth, but it isn't unusual that when I've sit down to watch something that I used to love, it no longer has the impact it did when it aired, and some it has become unwatchable to me. A lot of that is because the relative quality of TV has gone up so much, and the talent involved in the production has drastically increased.

People have pointed to reality TV as the example of what is eating away at what we used to have, but those shows are even more variety to choose from, rather than a limiting factor on other television. There is just so much more to choose from than ever before.

I look at TV today as a vast wasteland. Over 100 channels available to me and pretty much nothing to watch.

Each group that I don't like continues to push their agenda in my face daily. That includes newscasts as well as every channel, including the cooking shows.

Most of the time, I choose to not watch or change to another channel that does not have a current "stick it in your face" program.

I have access to a couple "oldies" channels, but re-runs of I Love Lucy don't do it for me either.

So here's a question for you:
How do you watch television?

With just three networks, it was easy - the least objectional show. I remember watching bowling as a kid, because that was the most entertaining option on a Sunday afternoon for me. And, if they were playing repeats, you watched repeats. As a kid, comparatively, most TV was pretty bad.

In actuality, I haven't watched TV for about five years, at least in the traditional sense, and we don't even have cable or an antenna. I choose my programming, and watch what I want, when I want. For me, that means Hulu, Netflix, HBO, and iTunes downloads, which I watch on all sorts of devices, including my TV. It does take more than just channel surfing to find what is worth my time, but I can watch what I want, when I want. I don't have to tune-in at a particular time.

I do, however, put some time into finding something I want to watch, and I know that unless it is on a major network, that if I want to invest my time in watching a show I can count on having a full season to watch.

Today, if there is a market of a decent size, it will almost certainly be served.

On the news shows, I agree. News has devolved, right along with the level of our political discourse (I was awed listening the level of thoughtfulness and intelligence of both candidates when I head the Nixon/Kennedy debates, which pre-dated my birth).

I watch TV these days as little as possible. Glad I have my guitar to fall back on. Lately, getting at least a couple hours a day practice time.

I agree, I have hundreds if channels and watch about 10 at the max. Most of those other channels would not be profitable on their own, so the owners and cable companies "Bundle" them with a popular channel you want to force you to pay for them. If you want the popular channel you can only get it in a "bundle", so we all give in and fund all those worthless channels we will never watch.

The reason this is done is because the owners of those channels will sell advertisement on every one of them, making money off of each, and with the "bundle" they can tell a potential advertiser how many millions of homes that channel is viewed in.

Most TV shows that are not on HBO, or one of the other premium pay channels, those have more yet, will have things that are directly against my morals, the things I taught my kids, and my Christian values. Just as I do not ask those people to bend to my will and follow my values, I would live for someone to make a show in the main stream that does not try to change my beliefs or bash those values.

I am sorry but I would not allow someone to sit in the corner of my house, do drugs, have illicit sex, kill people, or use foul language in front of my kids. I feel that when those things are on TV, it is no different than that happening.

I would never try to censor things on TV because what I like to watch might be censored next. So therefor I choose not to watch those things, soI am with you, that is why I watch VERY little TV.
