• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Whoa, what a ride.

I was able to take a short run on an F3S today courtesy of Wiredux. We were doing some R&D on a new remote control light kit on my 2012 RTS. After we were finished he let me take it for a spin. Yeah, I returned with a big grin on my face.

Good for you!!! And that one looks like a real beaut! I'm waiting for the weather to clear a bit, then I'll be at my dealers door - wanting to borrow a demo for a while.

Watch it..!!

those test rydes can be economically dangerous. You could easily become one of those two spyder families...:roflblack::roflblack: glad you got a spin on the F3...

 Always be careful of friends offering "Test-Rides"... :yikes:
The last time it happened to me; I ended up with a GoldWing in the garage! :D
Glad to hear that you like the F-3!

Thanks for the thread Bruiser. Would you be willing to elaborate a bit more on the details of your ride? Many of us are eager for any tidbit that gets sent our way.

Well, it was a short ride. I didn't want to stray too far on someone elses ride, although Dan would have been ok with it. Here goes with what I observed. The stock seat seems to be comfortable. A longer ride would prove more on that. The way you sit in the the seat instead of on it feels more natural. The stock handle bars felt natural. My arms were relaxed. The foot position is so much better than the RT. Again, it felt natural. The brake pedal is right where it should be. In front of your foot, not under it. I would have to get used to the stock mirrors. I like the layout of the info center. It's more like the RS. He doesn't have a windscreen on his, yet. So getting used to the wind in your face again would take some time. Windscreen would be a top item on my list of add ons.

A real plus, no waiting for the computer to boot up!  :ohyea:Just turn the key hit the start switch and go.

Power. WOW! Hang on when you shift in to second. And Dan had his in eco mode. The up shift is smooth. No, I didn't spin the rear tire.

The sound from the muffler is pleasing. Nice rumble. Not loud at highway speed. I think it would be even better minus the cat.

The ride is smooth. Not a whole lot different from the RT or ST. I didn't do any "twisties" as most of the roads here are fairly flat.

Now some concerns.

The auto downshift seemed a bit harsh to me. Now in all fairness, I'm used to the SM5, but I have driven my wife's RTS SE6, and the downshift on it seems much smoother.

Storage. Dan said he can't get his full face helmet in the frunk. A helmet lock will probably be another add on. Fact is, there's just not a whole lot of room. Of course, there are options. But is the high price worth it? Again, I'm used to the RT.

I'm a little concerned about how close the belt is to the cat. About 1 inch or so between the belt and cat. This may not be an issue, just my concern.

And lastly, the radiators vent directly at the front wheels. Again, just a concern.

Overall, I'm impressed. I plan on taking a longer demo ride very soon. Is an F3 in my future? Maybe. Maybe not.

Jim,
When you mentioned the radiators pitching hot air out onto the front wheels; were you thinking of the effect upon the brakes?
(I kind of was...)

On the day I picked it up it was 300 miles to home. That has been the longest trip on it so far, in one shot. The radiators are further from the wheel then you think and I have not noticed any decrease in braking power.

I was just thinking of overall heat on the front wheels in general. This may not be a problem at all with the airflow pushing the heat away. I'm sure the engineers considered this in the design process. It's just a concern I thought about.
