• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Whistling

I have a strange whistling noise driving between 44 and 46 mph. Does not matter which gear, it's the speed.

I have asked my dealer and they claim, all F3 have this problem.
Simple solution is nbot to drivce with that speed but that is not helping, it is annoying.

Anyone a clue what this is about?

I started noticing that same noise, and thought it might be the result of the Smooth Spyder I installed. Happens around 4000 rpm. Will keep an ear on it.

Have you been able to identify the exact location as to where the whistling noise is coming from?
Maybe it's a hidden BRP feature that compliments the driver when mounting after putting on aftershave or perfume.

Where is it from

To me it sounds it is coming from the engine. Initially thought it might be the wind but that is not tha cause. For me it is not based on rpm but on speed:sour:

Belt slipping

It sounds like your muffler belt is slipping.
Do not think it would always be with the same speed. Need to check again with the dealer because they told me it is very common.
As much as I appreciate all the answers, it actually demonstrates that it is not very common:banghead:
So since i just have this machine since April, tey should deal with it;)

Yep I get exactly the same! I put it down to the belt "singing". Starts at 42 and goes and 45mph.
(Remember that the UK and Aussie/NZ F3s have higher gearing than the US models so the speeds at which this occurs may be a bit different.)
I ignore it.

Actually, mine makes the same noise. I think that it is straight cut gears or the cam drives. I don't think it is anything to worry about. That is just my opinion and I could be wrong. But I'm not going to worry.

Worried??

I am not worried and do try to ignore it. That however is not always as easy as said.
Still will verify with the dealer and let you know the outcome.

All'n'all I am more than happy with this machine and reallnjo riding it as much as i get a chance:D

They get the same gearing as our RTs... Probably because of how fast folks can run on their limited access roads.

Limited access roads?? Motorways are I suppose, limited, as no pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders, learners or motorcycles under 50cc are allowed.
I thought it was because if you get caught doing a burn out away from the lights you are likely to lose your license....so they gave us higher gearing which means that we can pull almost 60 in first gear in a 30 zone!! :roflblack:

Ah, if it's that noise the OP is referring to then I get it too. I would have called that a 'whining' rather than 'whistling' and I too put it down to the straight cut gears. I really like it as it sounds like a touring car, although OJ may be the only one to get that reference!!
