• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

:ohyea:Went out on only my second ryde and am getting to know RD fairly well. There is a whining noise coming from the back. Thanks to you all, I'm pretty sure its my belt, which is too close, and is rubbing against the sprocket internal flange. I haven't purchased a service manual yet, so I'm not sure where to start making the adjustments. Has anyone posted a video of the adjustment process?:helpsmilie:

If your belt is rubbing the flange it will whine, I keep my belt a little less than an 1/8 inch off the flange, that stopped most of the whining.
You'll need a 36 mm socket. If you go to search you'll find detailed info on how to adjusted it.
But maybe you should bring it back to the dealer it should not have the left the dealer with the belt against the flange.

bought it used

Yeah boborgera, I saw in the Operator's Guide that there should be a min. 1/32 in. space from the flange. Mine is touching. The sound I hear is the sound that a cord would make as it were pulled with tension across a surface. If the adjustment cuts the noise in half, it would be great. I bought it used (barely). Still under warranty. I have to take it in for DPS recall, so I guess I can find out how much...:dontknow: maybe they will throw it in:shocked::roflblack: Of course, if they do the obvious, then I'll have to put down my paint brush and pick up that 36 mm socket. School's out for Winter Break. I have more time than money. Thanks for the response.

is it a "Spyderthang"?

I've got the '09 RS. Hoping that it's not an un-fixable "Spyder :spyder:Thing" But if so, I can live with it.

Took my spyder in to dealer for service and said it has been loud and dealer rode it and replace rear sprocket and belt. It still is loud though!:bowdown:your guess is as good as mine in that.Dealer not knowing what to do or its not fixable?

One of the first things that should be done in this situation is to have the dealer adjust the belt to the new, much lower tension spec. If you have over 6,000 miles on the Spyder, the front sprocket bolt should be loosened and retorqued, too, if it hasn't already. These are service bulletin items that are essential to prolong life of the bearings and keep the belt tracking properly. A "whine" from the rear bothers me! Even when it was running hard enough against the sprocket flange to leave marks, Nancy's Spyder did not make noise. I think you need to check your wheel and sprocket bearings for damage...or just replace them. The rear bearings on the Spyder are a known weakness. The belt alignment can be adjusted when these other things are done.

Write me to my email address and I'll send you back information on how to center the belt on the rear sprocket of your Spyder. Best you align it well because the repalcement belt costs about $10.00 I think. [email protected], Arthur---Mexico City

I think you'll find that a belt runs closer to 3 hundred. :yikes:

No thanks, I think I'll take 5 of the $10.00 ones.:roflblack:

Seriously, thanks for the suggestions, all. I'll be calling the dealer today. Are those new specs covered under warranty?

Only 1,350 miles

Hi Scotty, I'll be calling the local dealer today. I bought the Spyder used from a private individual. It only has 1,350 miles on it. I'm sure non of the new specs have been set.

Thanks for responding, Your opinion is greatly valued. (by me anyway:dontknow:).

Back rest w/No Passenger

Are you sure that your passenger is happy? :roflblack: :roflblack: :shemademe_smilie::pray:

Just got it last Friday. It's the first time I've ridden anything without four wheels, (besides the Motorcycle Safety Course). I don't think I'll have that type of whining for a while. Her last statement was, (as I handed her a helmet to try on), "Do you actually think I'm ever going to get on that thing?"   :D :2thumbs: More fun for me:ohyea:

I'm not going to post what my wife said... However it concerns noise from the rear :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:
