Which Spyder Is Right For Me?

I've been looking at the Spyder, but the Can Am website isn't all that great for comparing and contrasting models and options. :banghead:

For a rundown, I've done a good bit of Sport Touring on a CBR1100XX with hard luggage.

Perhaps that gives an idea of what I'm used to.

On my Spyder, I'd want heated grips and cruise control. I'd also want detachable hard luggage. I have Givi cases, but I don't see anything indicating a mounting kit compatible with the Spyder. I'm not looking to pay through the nose just to have a given option, so I'm okay with installing aftermarket mods if there are viable/cost effective ones to having it done OEM. I have a Garmin GPS, so I don't see why come trim levels make you take a GPS you don't really need to get other options you want.

As a rule, I ride solo, so I'm not concerned with the needs of a passenger.

Guidance?

Welcome to this site and the spyder world.... soon. :2thumbs: from what you have stated it looks like the the ST would be your choice. You can get Givi's for this model and it is better suited for your ryding style. But I would suggest a test ryde...the F3 could also suit you though more cruiser and less acc for now. It does have the new engine and transmission....test them...:thumbup:

We can be good at spending your money for you.

A trip to a knowledgeable dealer is recommended as well as test riding.

Your sounding like an ST-S person in order to get the amenities you mentioned.

I agree...sounds like you are into ST category. I got my ST-L in April and came also from a Honda ST1300. I like the saddle bags and they do come off. Comes with radio, GPS, heated grips...lots of extras. I got a 2014 (and there still are a lot out there) at great savings....list at almost $25K, got it for 17,300.00 I am pleased with my purchase. It does have a more straight up riding position as shown above which I appreciate now that I am older with a bad back. The forward angle can also cause pain in the wrist and hands.

So look at your riding style, the position you want and where and what rides do you do. If you did a lot of cross country/big trips then I would suggest the RT with the big trunk on the back. Shorter rides....the ST with the front trunk (known as Frunk) and the saddle bags can carry a lot. A photo of mine:

Bob and Craig have done well to get you headed in the right direction. With the four different models there are four different seating positions, which I consider to be the most significant differences between the models. It is all about the relationship between your hips, knees and feet, as well as if you are leaning forward or sitting up straight.

The sporty RS models place your feet behind you with the tightest knee angle, or bend, with your body leaning forward. The sport- touring ST models bring your feet forward some and start to open up the knee angle, also getting the driver to sit up straighter. The touring RT models get your body even more upright and get your knees opened up even more. The cruiser F3 models put your feet way out in front of you and open up the knee angle well past 90 degrees. Four distinct models with four distinct riding positions. You really should sit on them all to see what you prefer.

Past that there are the engine choices and transmission choices, and of course the windshield protection and luggage/cargo options, which you have to plug in your preferences. Based on what you have stated I would suggest the ST, but I am biased since I own one. You might really fall in love with the three cylinder 1300, but that only comes in the RT and F3, while the ST and RS are fitted with the 2-cylinder 991. Both can be had with semi-auto or manual tranny. They're all good, just different. Let how you fit on each of them be your guide!
