Which one? RS or F3?

Hello,
I currently do not own a Spyder. I have been doing a lot of research on buying one. My question is: do I get the RS or do I get the F3T with all of the luggage? What are the real differences between the F3 body style and seating versus the RS?

The RS is the original style. It is now discountinued. It was replaced by the F3.

Your selection depends on your use of the :spyder2:. If you want luggage--the F3T is good. If you want touring comfort--the RTS is better. If you want crotch rocket--RS is a good choice.

Thank you for answering. I mistyped RS, I meant the RT. They are both good for short and long trips due to about equal storage capacity. I'm just wondering if there is any significant difference in the ride or handling. It's also strange that most F3 are more expensive than the RT. I don't understand why...

I have the F3 and had a RT- Both good machines But you need to try them Both first OR you could make a Big mistake on something that cost a Lot of $$$. Find a way to try both with demo rides .

I don't own either one but have ridden both and Sarge707 is correct. You need to test drive them both.....at least sit on both in the showroom. The seating position is very, very different. If you are the type of rider that likes the "cruiser" seating position then you'll probably prefer the F3. if your the type of rider that does not like the "cruiser" riding position you'll probably like the RT.

Based on what I have read on these forums most people say the RT is more comfortable for passengers if that makes a difference to you.

Good luck.

+1 on the Sarge's advice

I came to Spydering with basically zero motorcycle experience, so I couldn't have articulated what I was looking for in ride, but was leaning toward the RT due to the configuration/options. I was fortunate to take the ryding course on F3 units, and then test rode an RT. After the course, I was a bit concerned as I was struggling to find a comfortable position during the drills, although that is certainly not normal riding. When I rode the RT, however, it felt just right.

That feeling can only come from being on the bike, in my very inexperienced and more than humble opinion. Point being, they *are* different, so it's worth getting a little seat time on both.

That said, I think a reasonable generalization is that the stock RT is a bit more of a Cadillac ride experience, whereas an F3 is more of a sports car feel -- again, just a broad generalization and everything is relative.

Good luck in your search -- I have really enjoyed the learning experience and wish you many smiling miles.

As others have said--best to test drive to see what works for YOU. I am partial to the RTS versions. I like the added comfort--to me similar to what is described for the Gold Wing experience. The F3 is a bit more "sporty" in looks and operation.

I test sat, but did not test drive F3. I did not like the ergos. Reminded me of the original TriGlides--which I also considered in 2010 when the first RT's came out.

Three--and counting on RT's for me. The other were GS/RS--but I made both of them into RT's with accessories.

I've owned 3 RTs, so my choice has been made...

But yours hasn't! Try out the seating position on both of them, determine the type of riding that you'll be doing, and THEN write the check!
Happy shopping!

My knee's are too old to bend that much so we went with the F3 LTD.

1000 miles last weekend, Cherokee, NC, Tail of the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, all great !!!

I have to agree with all the advice given about testing or at lest sitting on the Rt and F3. I found the F3 more comfortable for me. WE had both at the riders ed course and I was able to ride both that settled the decision for me, I purchased an F3 Limited, love it and yes it does feel like driving a sports car ;)
