There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Where to ride near Idaho Falls

Looks like I’m going to have an opportunity to ride for two or three days out of the Idaho Falls area around the middle of July. Anyone here have any suggestions for good rides or destinations in this area?

Go up us-20 to west Yellowstone then us-191north thru big sky country. Plenty of great side roads to explore along the way.

Take us-20 east to Arco, then north on us-93 as far as you like but at least to Salmon, Idaho. On the way back, take id-75 south to us-20. Then back to Idaho Falls, stopping at craters of the moon n.m.

Go ne on us-26 to Alpine, then north on us-89 to Jackson hole, then west on id-33 to us-20 then back to Idaho Falls.

Go ne up to west Yellowstone then north into Montana.

Go nw up to Sun Valley.

Go se to Jackson hole, wy

I was thinking about riding Beartooth Pass but would require going thru the western and northern portion of Yellowstone. Would traffic likely be a nightmare through there?

I wouldn't worry about Beartooth Pass traffic. We have ridden it on 3-Jul and staying in Cooke City, Yellowstone park on the 4th. Yes, there were cars and RV's. However, we were not hampered on our Beartooth ride. Also consider Chief Joseph Highway/296 to 120 into Cody, WY, US14 back into Yellowstone, the 191 down to Jackson, WY, and route back into Idaho Falls. We usually have ridden south out of Jackson heading for Utah.

If you're into science history check out the Experimental Breeder Reactor II historical site between Idaho Falls and Arco. That is where electricity was, for the first time in the world, generated from nuclear power. Arco is the first city lit by nuclear power.

Check out the roads east and south of Idaho Falls, like Swan Valley. Lot of pretty mountain scenery riding there.

OK, I really would like to ride Beartooth Pass and Chief Joseph Highway as both are on my bucket list. I'm thinking take Hwy 20 from Idaho Falls to West Yellowstone, then 191/89 to 212. Maybe stop short of Red Lodge and turn around and ride back to the start of 296 (Chief Joseph) ride all of 296 then turn around and ride 296 back to 212 and back to Idaho Falls. This plan would have me riding both directions on the Beartooth and Chief Joseph which sounds good to me and it would be an overnight trip so I'll take my camping gear. What do you all think, is this a good plan or a bad plan and/or is there a better plan?

Where are you thinking of camping?

That's a good question that I don't have an answer for at the moment. I may just start looking on various apps around noon (assumes I'll have cell service) since I have no idea where on my route I'll be near sundown as there are too many variables. I'm definitely open to suggestions.

Just be aware there are parts of the National Parks and Forests around Yellowstone that don't allow camping in soft-sided structures (tents) because of the bear hazard.

I might be in a pickle if that's the case! Last time I was in the area camping was 2014 when I rode the Continental Divide Trail and we tent camped the entire way and there were plenty of bear warning signs. Have camping rules changed since 2014? I was more worried about finding a campground with an open tent space since the whole world has apparently taken up RV'ing and camping since the pandemic.

I just remember one 10 day motorcycle camping trip where I had to ride an extra 2 hours in the dark, low on fuel, because where I was planning to camp in the Tetons prohibited tent camping outside well developed campgrounds. I was fortunate to grab the last campsite at Gros Ventre campground.

What a nice coincidence we were both at the same gas station in Wyoming at the same time today. Thanks for introducing yourself and best wishes for the rest of your bucket list trip!

I can’t get over that we just crossed paths in the middle of nowhere. Was nice to meet you and your wife. Wish we’d have had more time to visit.
