There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Where to get engine oil analyzed...

I've got a gas odor and would like to get it checked. I see kits you order online. Is there anyone "generally local" that could do it? Thanks...

I purchase my oil analysis kits (WIX) from Napa online, product no. FIL 4077, $21.99, including analysis charge. ALS Tribology in Norcross, GA does the analysis. Have ben using them for years and am well satisfied. Slowest part is snail mail to GA.

So I guess it's send it out to be done. Was hoping someone local, like a dealership might do it. Bummer, the weather's just turning nice and I'm kinda afraid to run it till I figure out "the smell".

A dealership couldn't afford the labor cost or the equipment for the little use they/it would get.

Forgive my ignorance, but what does an oil analysis and gas smell have to do with each other, unless you suspect gasket leaks? Wouldn't there be other things like evap canisters and such to suspect first? (I picked up a gas smell when shifting after doing my primary muffler/cat delete, but assumed this is normal. Now you have me a little worried, because I also did my own oil change for the first time around that same time.)

I think smell of gas is coming from the oil.

Napa told me they no longer sell oil analysis kits. I just ordered one from Amsoil and received it in three days. I'll take a sample and send it back to them tomorrow. It was a quick turnaround, and the last analysis was excellent, along with future recommendations.

Blackstone Laboratories

Another Shout Out for Blackstone.
I have used them for years.
They are located in Indiana.
Give Blackstone a call.

I got my sample Kits from them for no charge.
They are charging a little extra for doing the Lab work. Which is only fair.

I have been very Pleased with their Service.

I believe someone BSed you. An online search where I live lists 27 Napa Stores w/in 50 miles where I can pick up one today, including the closest one to me only five miles away. Verified by phone they still sell and have in stock. Maybe it's a left coast Greenie thing.

Very well could be JayBros. The Greenie thing is taking a toll on businesses and the population out here. The person I spoke with at Napa was the owner of two stores here in town and I've known him for years so I don't believe he was BSing me. In fact, he went to the trouble of giving me the phone numbers of two oil testing companies, one being Blackstone. Having used Amsoil I gave them a try and they've been quick and simple so I'm sticking with them for now.

BlackStone here as well. Its a little pricey IMO but worth it. I get one every oil change. I believe there have been a few discussion on the forum on this.

When you pull the dipstick and put some on your finger, do you smell gas in the oil? I know on the old 998's they have a charcoal cannister and a dump valve that recycles gas fumes from your tank. I don't know if the 1330's have that same system or not, it is known to dump gas into the canister if you top your tank off too much and you will get some gas odor when it's doing it and the cannister is getting full. The fix for this is get rid of the cannister and put a high point vent in its place, which works well. You may want to check it out!! Could save you a lot of money. Do a search on cannisterectomy.

The 1330 engine is different to the 998 V-twin. No need to try or do a cannister-ectomy on this engine. The 1330 vent tube was changed from the tank. In another thread, just recently, somebody reported from an oil analysis that the fuel detected in the oil was greater than should be, which BajaRon said could be a leaking or improperly firing injector...

In 2021 I ordered an oil analysis kit from the auto parts store. I took a sample of the oil in my 2014 RTS-SE6 and I posted the results on this site back then.
