• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Where do u normally shift?

Just curious where everyone normally shifts at to make sure I'm doing it about right. I've been shifting up at 5000 and down at 3000.

I usually shift between 4500 and 5000. I sometimes shift around 4200 between 1st and 2nd as I have noticed I get a smoother shift just between those 2 gears at that rpm.

Shifting

Per BUDS.... the bulk of my RPM's are logged between 4 and 6K. I down shift around 4K and upshift around 6K.

I am a bit conservative I shift between 4000 & 4500 in town and 5000 to 6000 on the highway. Never get out of 4th in town and sometimes 3rd.

I shift up when the engine sounds like it wants another gear....downshifting is pretty much dependant on what I'm slowing down for and how fast I'm approaching it.

Just not a big fan of watching gauges....maybe the occasional glance....but the real action is up ahead....on the blacktop. :yikes:

I shift between 23-28 mi from 1st to 2nd. Other gears between 4200-5200 rpms. I downshift around 3200-3500 rpms. Sometimes, rather than downshift, I try to get my rpms back up in the 4200 range if the speed limit allows.

Wouldn't the 3rd gear be more fuel effecient? 5500 rpm in 2nd gear just doesnt feel right to me/

It depends on what you're after. The only rule is to stay above 3,500 or so (for an SE). If you are trying to get on the highway, you might even be in 1st at that speed. It would still be a couple of thousand below the redline. Do whatever makes you happy, you won't hurt the Spyder either way. Use of fourth gear ath that speed would be a problem, though. Not good for either the engine or the SE clutch.

When I bought my RT a couple of months ago I took advice from this forum re shifting.
I shift up from 1st to 2nd between 22&28 mph.From 2nd to3rd &3rd to 4th 5000 rpm from 4th to 5th 65mph or approx 6000 RPM.I only use 5 th gear above 65mph normally on a straight rd.Its like an overdrive.I am getting 30mpg.The engine seems to love 5000rpm.

My thumb gets the wake-up call to start getting busy at 4000rpm... It keeps the revs up over 3500 as the next gear is selected.
