• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Where can I find a better dipstick?

Hello all. Well, it looks like I stripped the threadings on the dipstick. I like to check my oil frequently, and it is a bummer how inconvenient this process is. I don't mind taking off the tuipperware so much, but I think that the plastic dipstick feels cheep and is hard to read. Maybe just me... Anyway, I am looking for a replacement. Since my closest Spyder dealer is a solid 1.5 hours away, I want to order one online. Can any suggest the best place to do that? Also, I see an aftermarket chrome one. Does anyone know if this is a good one? it's pricy. Take a look.

I sympathize with you...
I lost a dipstick due to some careless cross-threading also... :opps:

I see a potential problem with the one that you've got in your sights: It's for a Yamaha V-Star 950.
You'll have to do an awful lot of double-checking as to whether or not it waill physically fit your Spyder or not...
Then; you'll have to see how the markings on it differ from the OEM plastic P.O.S., and re-mark it for accuracy!
Good Luck! Let us all know what you find out about it!

That would be a big improvement if it fits.

I have a cold check dipstick in the works (inspired by Scotty). I hope to have a prototype done as soon as i catch up from taking a vacation.

Put me down for one, JT!

I cross-threaded my first one, and probably would have done it again . . . but I finally realized that the O-Ring was going down the threads, and once I learned to push it to the top before trying to screw the dipstick back in, found it much easier and you are less likely to cross-thread.

+100 on that!
Learned that my first time. DO NOT try to force thread it ever. Good chance your having problems getting it started because the O-ring is in the way.

My "O" ring broke the first time I took the cap off musta been extra tight from setup. Always screw lightly it does not take much muscle to screw it in if it feels at all tight start over immediately.

I'm in..!!

:popcorn:For JT to build a better mouse trap. As for the present..if you don't remove the o ring it is a pain. I found taking the o ring off makes much easier to line up the threads and get a reading.

Sorry this dosen't help with your question but you really need the spec's to see if the o ring seat will work as well as the threads and shaft length...

I do not understand the "O" ring is supposed to be at the top of the threads near the handle and does not interfere with threading it in. Problem is it slips down and that can be a problem.

I just crossthreaded mine the other day. I caught it fast it was the first thread.I was able to smooth the bur with my pocket knife and still use the one I have. Now I have to be real careful getting it started. I hate the oil check procedure on these bikes.I crossed it trying to rush to check it before the oil settled. I am in for one JT
