wheelchair mount?

I am getting this on friday, if anyone has advice on how to mount the wheelchair plz post it, I was going to thinking of two U brackets and put the axel of my quickie gt in it behind me, I looked at a guy that lives south of me who is a c7 but can move his legs, he is the first peroon I have met who has a sci since my sci, wierd to see some move their legs when they are in a wheelchair.

If someone on here has some examples of what to do here.

the guy I with the setup has one of the best handbrake cable designs I have seen, he goes straight off a bracket hole to a welded bracket of the back of the top back of the brake mount, I wil get a pic of it, he also has a floor board setup that puts your feet down by the plastics.

As more and more owners need a way to carry a wheelchair, I have thought a lot about this. I'm not real sure of what it would take, and have no experience in this area, but I was thinking that purchase of the mounting racks for the GIVI bags would give a platform that could be readily modified to allow carrying a wheelchair. I would use the straight racks for the big bags, rather than the PLX racks which are curved. Mounting a chair on the left would also allow one GIVI bag to be carried on the right. Just a thought.

I'm currently trying to design a wheelchair carrier that would be easy to load/unload. If you look at the rough preliminary sketches, you'll see that once the chair was folder and loaded on the carrier, the crossbrace would hold and lock the front end of the chair while a bungie cord would strap from the rear uprights around the chair holding the chair inside the carrier and the back of the chair in place. As far as mounting the carrier to the :spyder2: , I'm thinking about a rod that would be attached to the bottom of the carrier and extend through the rear axle of the :spyder2:. You could then secure the rod with a nut/cotter pin combination. It also needs a brace from the cross member upright of the carrier to the rear fender. I'm still working out the details, so this is a very rough work in progress, but maybe it will give you some ideas about how you might go about this. Hope this helps.

I have a ridgid frame, and I am going to try to see if I can just go with two bungie cords looped on the back handles and then put the chair facing backwards on the back section. the connect the bungies with a D ring over the center of the chair, this a simple I can think of it and will work into more complex as I go.

I'm not sure you are headed in the right direction with the brake. A new, adjustable handle, or a different shape, could give you slightly more available travel without hitting the handlebar, but I suspect your problem is more one of leverage. If you have too long a distance where attached at the brake, the handle has to travel farther to engage the brake, and exerts less force. This means you really have to grab hard to get decent braking power. Before you move the brake enough to stop, your lever hits the handlebars. Any slack in the system (and there must be some) makes things worse. I would look at the lower attachment point to see if it can be moved closer to the fulcrum point. Any handle will only move a cable so far, and you do not want to be at the end limit of travel. Love the footboards, BTW.

the floor boards are kick ass. I need 3 more mm of travel, and the new handbrake I have has way more movement and it mounts in the the same place so I think it will work, if your right i will have to remount the the bracket on the bottom. Hopefully it won't come to that. Will find out tomorrow. The ****ing 18 inchs of snow might slow down my testing. Damn minnesota

yep the snow sucks, tons of people in the ditch call the 911 center where I work at, got the new handle on but I need to do a road test. what part of michigan do ya live in? do alot of spyder riders in the midwest?

just noticed this thread today, regarding wheelchair mounting. Here is what I came up with. (see attached photos)
I use an old Quickie II folder, with wheels weighs in at about 20 pounds. Last year I slammed in over 14,000 km with my little design....even did a presentation to the folks at BRP on the mods to my Spyder, all quite fun.
Rewarding, has been helping nearly 25 folks with different challenges, froma around the world, become part of the Spyder Ryders community. From war vets to those that are not just so stable on their feet. Seth, if you need more guidance, ping me a private email.
I'm a T-12 complete, no use of legs at all.

got my brake fixed and it works, just need a road I was over looking at some ideas and have came up with a few ideas for a ridgid frame quickie Gt, got move the turn signals and put an ingrated tail light/brake light setup. Was also looking at putting some turn signals on the back of the front fenders cause they stick way out when I was driving behind my buddy, wondered if anyone had do this?

For the integrated tail light, I suggest this fix Third Brake Light. You could also add Hyper-Lites to the license light, as I did, but they are smaller and less visible, so work better as supplemental lighting. No Magic Neon's mudflap lights will work as turn signals with his Fender TIPS kit. His link is on the home page here. Glad you got your brake working.

Thanks for the great pics on how you mounted your Quickie wheel chair. I plan to study this very problem and come up with a solution that can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable price.

My significant other is a PT (Physical Therapist) that worked 25 years as an RTS (Rehab Technology Supplier) and I will pick her brain to see how I can offer something that will be meaningful to the community of folks that need to take a chair along for the ride.

when I get something welded up I will get pics for my quickie gt non folder. snow is almost off the roads, still looks like the movie fargo around here.There should be a law and all snow has to be melted by march 1st and can't snow before the 1st day of deer hunting.
