• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. What's the deal with closing the F3 Gas cap!?

I had a machine repair biz for over 40 years and learned that WD-40 leaves a sticky residue. Customers would use it on a sliding mechanism and complain that it worked for a while, then things got harder to move and would apply WD-40 again. Isn't that the definition of insanity - repeating the same thing and expecting a different result?
About the gas cap latch; I had to file off a lot of metal before it worked with just a little pressure/resistance.

What is the DEAL with this gas cap (new owner, F3-S)? To get it closed I have to use both hands and get up on the right peg to put my weight on it. I tried lubing it with some WD-40 but that didn’t help much. I see where LaMonster has a replacement. Any ideas from Spyder experts before I call in my order?
Thanks in advance.

Had to practically stand on mine to make it to latch. Used a liberal amount of WD40 GEL. A year and 1/2 later, and it still latches with just a lite touch of my pinky finger.

Regards,

Don

Common mistake thinking WD-40 is a lubricant. The WD stands for "Water Displacement". That defines it's purpose

I know that WD40 is not a LUBRICANT. The issue with the locks is the LUBRICANT "BRP" chose doesn't continue to LUBRICATE the lock mechanism. The WD40, doing exactly what is engineered to do, makes the lock lubricant pliable again. I, like Highway 2013, have had excellent results. For four years.

The problem is not the key. This cap has a very tight fit and the spring mechanism which holds the gasket needs lubrication or it binds. The binding of that spring and gasket is what you are fighting.

I periodically lube mine with white lithium grease but I still work the gasket/spring mechanism up and down a few times prior to attempting to shut it. Even when the grease dries up working the spring mechanism (not the key) greatly improves your ability to close the cap.
