There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. whats the best gear for saving fluel

hello,

i was wondering if some people know how to save fuel when driving my rs spyder wich gear which speed and how many rpm before shift to higher gear..

thanks

I'm sure if you shift at 3,000 RPM'S you will get better gas mileage. But these bikes like to be over revved. The higher the gear you are in would be best. I think these bikes needed a Sixth gear for the highway. But if i wanted to save gas i would of bought a Vespa. :roflblack:

If you have an SE, be sure to keep the rpm above 3,500 when cruising. The centrifugal clutch can slip otherwise, and be damaged. This means upshifting at 4,500 or higher, and downshifting if the rpm drops for a significant period of time.

Just a thought...yes gas is pretty expensive, but when one spends several thousands of dollars for a "toy", then worry about the cost of gas aren't we losing focus? And how many Spyder owners have gas consuming pickups and SUVs parked in the drive way? Sorry, folks you can't have it both ways.

I don't think the fact people spend several thousands has anything to do with wanting to be frugal or efficient in their driving. Even people with SUVs (myself) and pickups generally try to do things that increase their fuel mileage as much as possible. A penny saved is a penny earned.

1. Ride all the time in full Tuck
2. Shut Spyder off while going down a hill and stopping for traffic lights
3. Never let Spyder warm up to operating temps.
4. Add a cup of water to every fill up
6. Take every part off the Spyder that is not essental to run to lighten it up including seat, windshield, trunk, ect......
7. Ride naked for aero dynamics
8. Run with 50lbs of air in the tires

I'm stunned you left out the part about the total body waxing,... hair is a major drag in a wind tunnel.

BTW, I tried the 'cup of water to every fill up' technique, and its worked perfectly, increased my fuel mileage 100% as the bike no longer starts! Haha! :D

Well to cut him a break; When Holly is waxing his back, he's not thinking about his Spyder! :roflblack:

Don't laugh; it'd be like trying to wax a a goat!

It's not a toy for me either. But I knew before I bought it what the mileage would probably be. I have found that when we go sight-seeing and stay 50 mph or less, I use 4th gear with cruise and get just under 50 mpg.

My Car doesn't even do that. All joking aside My RS SE5 2011 gets an avg. of 32 mpg. which i'm happy with. Less if I decide to have alot more fun on it.
