• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

This should open another can of worms. :roflblack: I have never ridden an SE, so I am not sure what they are like. I have no preconceived notions, but for me, the manual clutch was really a matter of self-preservation. With as many machines as I have, the more similarities, the better. If they all shift the same, I don't have to think about it. As it is, I have to look at the darned control pod just to use the turn signals. Same as Nancy's Spyder, but different from my BMW, which is different from my other BMW. That one even uses a different hand. The rest have no turn signals at all. A paddle shifter would just make things confusing for a fossil like me, but I understand they are great.

SE

My dealer has a blue RTS-SM on order, but the SE came in first. From what I've been reading the SE works great with a trailer.

I also have an SE. Really neat. If you up shift with the throttle in an agressive mode, it actually pauses the throttle between shifts. To an observer, it appears you are using a manual transmission and also make them think "WOW, THAT GUY IS REALLY GOOD". Kind of neat as I said. This is all possible beacuse of the throttle by wire technology. Even though I don't change MY throttle position, the computer actually controls the throttle. Same happens with the down shift.

I love shifting the SE at 7K. It is so smooth and fast. I guess what I like best about the SE is being stuck in traffic. It's great to just give it throttle and not have to work the clutch, especially on a hill.:doorag:

I didn't have an option on the Silver RT that I ordered and I doubt I would have paid the $1500 difference anyway for the SE option. I'm a cheapskate. But I rode an '08 GS SE5 and, I have to say, I liked the electric shifter. Upshifts were very smooth without moving the throttle. It's not dependent on the fly by wire throttle, by the way, because the '08 was cable controlled. I preferred downshifting a bit earlier than the automatic downshifter but downshifts, whether automatic or using the paddle shifter, were just as smooth as upshifts. And the automatic downshift means you are always in first gear when you stop. I didn't ride it in heavy traffic but I'm sure the automatic clutch would be really nice in traffic. And, I was still in control. The only difference was shifting with my hand or my foot.

I've got PE #108, and ordered manual. Like the control with the sweet spot. After riding for 50 years would miss the shift. Already miss not having the hand brake.

SE5 or SM5 Which way to go

I found it interesting that my dealer said that they had ordered floor inventory of 4 RT-S's. 2 SE5 and 2 SM5 but that BRP notified them that the SM5 units were cancelled and replaced with SE5 units.

I got the RT SE because I really enjoyed my 09 SE-5. My wife says she enjoys riding more now that she has the 09 SE-5. She is used to riding her Harley Nightster and says she doesn't miss the shifting. She never liked city traffic and hills before.

Which Shifter SE5, or SM5

I have been riding for 30 years and have Goldwings.

I bought the RT-SE5.

When I first test drove the SM5, I thought this is it.

Then I test drove the SE5, I was impressed, full throttle, powered shifts.

You cannot do that with a SM5 manual shift. Typically I turn the throttle to a certain point then hold the throttle there, and start banging gears.

I love that the down shift is automatic, but iam usually manually downshifting before a turn, The RT is Awesome!!!!! once you have mastered it's power curve.

The RT Spyder In general, Must be ridden, Manual or Auto.
