What To Expect and What BRP Options Should I Consider

Arthritis in both my hands, as a result of 42 years of work, has brought me to the reality that I will have to give up my Level 2(Comfort, Navi, XM) GL1800 trike and go to a '15 RT Limited. I know I will miss having a local dealer going to an RTL. The dealer I plan to deal with is 90 minutes away. For those who have gone from a GL1800 trike to a Can-Am, I'd like to know:
1. What will I miss most in making the change?
2. What will I gain in making the change
3. How should I "configure" the RTL?

I think the RTL would be a good choice to replace your GL1800 Trike. Not a whole lot of difference between the 2014 and 2015 models, so you may be able to get quite a bargain if you can find a 2014 left-over. Here is a very recent thread that answers some of what you want to know. (Obviously, since it's on this forum, it's a little biased toward the Spyder, but that's to be expected, right?

AS for "configuring it", as you know the RTL comes with all the basic needs. But of course you'll want to add your own stuff to make it yours. A search of the forum with "RT" and "Farkle" as keywords might get you some suggestions about what others have done. Here's what I've done to mine. (Fortunately for you, you can ignore the ones that have to do with heat reduction.) Obviously from your time with the GT, you're going to know some of what you want to add. However, I'd also suggest BajaRon's beefed up anti-sway bar, for your riding enjoyment - especially if you're on the "larger side", or do a lot of duel riding. I also really enjoy the backrest that I've added to my RT, though I never used one on my cruiser.

Nothing was said, but I assume yu are going for the semi auto transmission. If you are a GWRRA membe, I suggest the their trike course, even if you took it on your 1800 trike. I am not real fond of the Spyder CB, but you are riding with a GW club, you know the benifets of havng a CB. I ride with a GW club.

Post #2 has you pretty well covered.

Consider the 90 miles to the new dealer as another excuse for a ride.

1 and 2 combined. The :spyder2: is going to handle differently. I am guessing you will find it to be easier since you don't have to force the front wheels to turn the corners with the :ani29:. The handling will be totally different, so give yourself a couple hundred miles to "re-learn" how to drive the :spyder2:.

I would also give it about a thousand miles before you add to many configuration farkles. Let the OEM seat get "broke in" properly before making a decision on that.

I did add the custom dynamics trunk light bar and a Utopia drivers backrest from the beginning though.
