• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. What to do, what to do...

Am teaching the wife how to drive our RTS SM5. She'll take the MSC end of this month, but not on the Spyder. Have to use their bikes. Here's dilemma #1. She has trouble using the clutch because of arthritis. We went to the dealer today, they have a 2011 Red RTS SE5. But trade in is just a shade over $18,000. That would leave us a considerable amount left on the new bike. The dealer offered to take ours in and sell it for us. That way they can ask retail, then work a deal on the 2011. While we were there, they got a call from another person who wants to bring their RTS SE5 in and have them sell it. Talk about strange happenings. Here they have not had any pre owned Spyders to sell, now it looks like they'll have two, and they get calls all the time asking if they have any pre owned Spyders. Dilemma #2, I read of a lot of problems with SE5's on this site and others. So what's the deal? Are they really that troublesome????

Due to arther getting into my hands I got both my bykes semi Auto. No problems can go just a fast on change of gears as any stick shift can if that's what your worried about....... don't. It will be alot easier on her if she can have the SE. The problem is her learning on a 3 wheel then having to go to a 2 wheel for testing!!! Sheeeese can't they take her on the :f_spider:???? If not WHY NOT!!!???? Good luck either way.

Was riding my RS SE5 today, and at one point I vividly marveled at how ridiculously crazy fast the thing shifts at times. I've driven manual bikes, drive a manual car, I NEVER match that speed of shift. And certainly NOT that smoothly-- if you catch it right, the shift is completely unnoticeable.

That said, there are times it gets a little twitchy, especially if you shift too soon. But IME manual shifting can be just as twitchy at times-- you miss the friction zone, your foot slips on the shifter, etc.

I'm thrilled with the SE5, no complaints!

I have not had any problems with my RT S SE-5 since I purchased it. Knock on wood. I went to the SE-5 because of problems with author in my hands as well and my legs were getting weaker so could not hold up the wing any longer. (Breaks of Naval Warfare) But I would do it all over again reguardless of the outcome.

Any way, as I said, no prolblems with my 2011

I had a 2010 Red RS SE and now I have a 2011 RT Limited.......and would never go back to manually shifting.....this is one of my favorite things about the :f_spider:. I have not had any problems at all with either Spyders and I think Your wife will be thrilled with how easy the Spyder handles. Good luck to her on her test at the end of the month. Keep us posted on your decision!

First :spyder:was an '09 RS SE5 and never had a problem and now the 2011 RT Limited SE5 and still no problems:ohyea:............go for it!:2thumbs:

Cash in that retirement fund and buy it for her... By the time you're ready to quit working you'll need more than what's in there anyway... :gaah: Besides; we all can smell the start of an "infestation" in your garage already!

I would suggest that you read these forums first, when the unit gets to the dealer have him check for repairs that have been done on that unit. He will know how to do that. Then you can make up your mind. Don't let anyone fool you BRP has quality control issues that they need to address. It's the luck of the draw, you could get a good one or a bad one.

I have a 2010 RT SE5 I have almost 23000 Mi. on it The only problem I had and still have is it hestitates every now and then when shifting (I think its just a glitch in the system, I don't worry about it anymore.) that being said I wouldn't give the SE5 up for anything. If you like riding up in the mountains and on the back roads the SE will run circles around the SM (just my .02 worth) My wife got her license on the :spyder2: and the MSC highly recommended bring your own ride. reason being she doesn't like shifting and the spyder is SE. They did have some Automatics you could use. But she did take the trike class and is restricted to three wheels only. I don't know if N carolina has this option or not, but if they do it is a good Idea if she is not planning on riding anything else like my wife. OH after getting her license ( you might want to think about this first) We ended up getting her own ride a RS SE5. Shes had it just three months and has just over 3000 mi. on it. This is in her own words: I love it and wouldn't trade it for anything. I have found that it is a smoother ride if you down shift it yourself, then letting it down shift on its own other than that its great. Best of luck with your wifes MSC. Keep us posted.

Thanks to all the replies. We've had the RTS SM5 for a little over a year. We do like it. NC does not have a trike only license and the MSC must be taken on their bikes. These are all 250 cc bikes of various types. When I took the course (as a refresher) I rode a Verago. You can take the driving portion of the license test on the Spyder, but she has never been licensed so she'll take the course. I don't think at this point we'll be a two Spyder family as I'm looking at going to two. Guess I still have two in the blood. We'll keep y'all posted.

I have some nerve damage in my left hand from neck problems and cannot use a clutch comfortably, so bought 2010 RT S SE5 and love it . the shifting is smooth and I shift when rpm's around 4000. Have had no problems . Also the auto downshifting feature is nice too.

Works much the same in Ontario. If you do the test on a Tryke, there is a restriction on your licence, if you do it on two wheels it is good for two OR three.
